Roger Shuman I am 51 years old and I am currently General Manager for a Manufacturing business in the Ogden Industrial Park.
I believe that currently the biggest issue that is affecting the city is the lack of revenue to sustain the current services given by the city. As Mayor I would work with the City Council to generate more revenue by establishing a plan to help current businesses grow and attract other businesses into our community. There are several vacant business buildings in our city that need to be filled. As I have worked on the Harrisville Planning commission for the past 14 years one issue I believe we have is that our development plan for the city is strong on the residential development and our commercial development is weak. I would look at ways to strengthen this plan. I would also look at all city business expenditures to make sure that they are in line with the needs of our residents. Over the years many of the residents have addressed the issues of wanting to live in a rural environment. I have lived in Harrisville for more than 40 years of my life and I have witnessed the city grow from a rural farming community. Today we have a community that supplies much open space and many residential lots that allow for a few farm animals. I believe we need to maintain the rural living environment we have today but we need to attract businesses to the areas zoned for business.
I believe that with my service in the planning commission for the past 14 years that I have learned a great deal about how the city operates. Combining the planning commission experience with my life's work as a business manager for more than 28 years. I offer a great deal of leadership and management experience that would help me with my service to the residents as Mayor of Harrisville City.
