On October 1st, twenty-seven of Utah’s finest young women, ages ranging from 13-17, vied for the title of Miss Utah’s Outstanding Teen 2017. After two days of fierce competition, former Sanpete County’s Outstanding Teen, Addelyn Brotherson was crowned to wear the 2017 title.
“Addie” is the daughter of Jared and Liz Brotherson, from the small community of Wales, Utah. Addelyn will receive a two year full tuition waiver from Dixie State University, as well as a $2,800 valued tuition waiver from Weber State University. The Miss Utah’s Outstanding Teen Organization has also donated a generous $2,500 cash scholarship. Addelyn was preliminary winner of the evening gown/ onstage question, talent, and fitness portions of the competition. As well as nominated with eight other individuals for the Teen’s In Action. All of these accomplishments, as well as other winnings, have accumulated well over $3,000.
Addelyn will spend the remainder of her year serving the state of Utah, and promoting her platform: MISS Addie’s Team, Mental Illness Silently Suffering. This title will give her the voice she believes will help end the stigma surrounding mental illness. As well as help to improve the mental health care system. Addie will have the opportunity to compete for the title of Miss America’s Outstanding Teen in July, 2017. She is a 14 year old freshmen at North Sanpete High School, making her the youngest Miss Utah’s Outstanding Teen since 2006.
