August 24 - Dear Dave

Dear Dave,

Our three kids are enrolled in a private Christian school. It’s a great place, and we truly believe our kids are getting a wonderful, faith-based education, but the tuition is pretty expensive. We’ve already had to start digging into our savings to make this happen, and the kids are only in elementary school. Should we keep them enrolled, or should we transfer them to public school?

Dear Maureen,

August 23 - Dear Dave

Dear Dave,

I work for a fire department in Mississippi, and I’ve been trying to get information on the state’s deferred comp plan. No one here seems to know a lot about it, so I was wondering if I should keep looking for information or is it not worth the bother?

Missing Appointments Wastes Time and Money

It has happened to many of us. We call and set up an appointment with our doctor.  We even write it down. But, life happens and we remember the appointment about an hour after we were supposed to check-in.  We are now official “no shows.”

A no-show occurs when a patient misses an appointment without making any attempt to cancel or reschedule 24 hours in advance.

Dear Dave,

What is your opinion on paying cash for a “tiny house”?

Wes

Dear Wes,

This may be a really un-hip or un-cool thing to say, but I wouldn’t buy a tiny house at all. Paying cash for something like that might make the mover smarter, but that still doesn’t mean it’s a smart choice.

August 19 - Dear Dave

Dear Dave,

My father loaned my husband and I money 20 years ago to help us start a business. The business eventually failed, and it forced us into bankruptcy. After this, we never seemed to get around to paying him back. He died earlier this year, and when we got together with my brother and sister for the reading of the will, we realized he had deducted the amount of the loan from my inheritance. Everything was equal between us before that. I think that’s wrong. What’s your opinion?
