Murder, mayhem turns small town ‘Crest’ upside down

Jesse Wright narrates story suffused with lots of thrill, adventure propelled by secrets

CENTER, Colo. – Jesse Wright makes her mark in the literary world with the story of how secrets blanketed small town “Crest” (published by Xlibris), leading to murder and mayhem. This thrilling adventure is more than just adrenaline-filled read but a relatable story to teens and people who love in town where everyone knows everyone.

Living in a small town, not much can go wrong. Everyone knows everyone else, and everyone is kind to each other. So when a murder strikes the small town of Crest, who can be trusted anymore?

May Dee is an average 17-year-old girl in an average small town with not-so-average secrets. She meets a boy who has his own secrets and anger problems to match, and an unlikely friendship occurs. When faced with murders near her home, she has only one option of thinking. Could this boy, Silas Kredible, be the one killing people in his own town, or is her imagination playing a cruel joke on her?

More than its offer of thrill and suspense, this book is geared towards the teens and young adults population, to encourage them to read and see that people with secrets do not have to feel less than others. Through richly drawn, relatable characters the small town of “Crest” comes alive inside the pages of this book to encourage more than to entertain.

“My book isn’t aiming for love or scaring people, it’s aimed more towards being real and connecting with its reader. It’s not meant to scare, but rather to say, no matter what, you can overcome the obstacle in your way, and everything will be okay, even when the outcome isn't what you wanted,” Wright says.

New fitness book instructs how to work out while cooking

Nancy L announces release of debut book, ‘Fit Cui—Work Out / Eat In’

OTIS, Ore. – Nancy L’s new book “Fit Cui—Work Out / Eat In: Fitness Cuisine” (published by Lulu) teaches readers how to cook healthy at home and how to work out while cooking.

“Fit Cui—Work Out / Eat In” contains a collection of recipes. Each step in all the recipes has an exercise that corresponds to it. A certified personal trainer through the American Council on Exercise (ACE), L created FitCui – short for fitness cuisine – for people interested in using their time while preparing meals to fit in activity. The book includes recipes for such meals as asparagus and cheese potato soup, baked oatmeal, and mini mushroom and sausage quiche. The workouts consist of exercises like standing side crunches and squats; the workout instructions include pictures demonstrating the actions.

“Today’s society is fast paced, encompassing multiple activities and multi-tasking on a number of levels,” L says. “It’s difficult to find the time to also fit in the all important workout. Exercising helps to relieve the associated stress.”

Karen G. Aukema releases ‘Ashel’s Christmas’

Juvenile fiction book illustrates goodness, warmth, faith, hope

CHIPLEY, Fla. – Karen G. Aukema’s father worked on several ranches in Florida before owning his own ranch; her father raised his family on a ranch where they raised cattle, rode horses, and had many interesting experiences.

Her dad's life story inspired Aukema to write “Ashel’s Christmas” (published by WestBow Press), which deals with lessons in faith, hope, love, and forgiveness. Set in central Florida during the 1930s, this juvenile fiction picture book follows a little boy who meets a cowboy at the local store and that begins a cowboy friendship. Cowboy Pete is a cowboy that befriends little Ashel.

“Ashel’s Christmas” also illustrates the true spirit of Christmas. The cowboy learns that “the good tidings of great joy” spoken of by the angel on that first Christmas, is indeed, for all people.

“I want my readers to come away from reading this book inspired to show more love and charity to others without expecting anything in return.”

An excerpt from this book:

When cowboy Pete finally fell asleep that night, he dreamt he was on the open range all alone.  In the distance he noticed some men who were passing in front of him several yards away.  They were in a hurry, some walking, some running. Pete could over hear them talking among themselves.  Some had walking sticks.  They looked like. . . shepherds.
