Updates from Utah Gov - Organizations

Tuesday, October 11, 2016 - 9:15am

Did you know – the World Health Organization ranks infertility as the third most serious disease worldwide after cancer and cardiovascular disease?

But Prelude will soon change a medical industry from one focused on treating infertility to fertility. More will be announced next week in Salt Lake City at the American Society of Reproductive Medicine (ASRM) Conference. (Embargoed until Monday, October 17, 2016)

What is Prelude? Prelude is a comprehensive fertility company that helps people have healthy babies when they’re ready. It aims to give men and women reproductive choices with a focus on preservation when they’re young and control over their biological clocks. Prelude focuses on providing fertility care to preserve it via the latest scientific innovations, helping people not let current goals get in the way of their parenting dreams in the future.

Infertility, on the other hand, is complex, especially as more people are delaying childbirth until their 30s and 40s to complete their education, pursue careers, or find the right partner. Some facts:

1.       According to the American Society for Reproductive Medicine, a woman’s fertility begins to drop in her late 20’s and early 30’s. The organization advises that those who delay pregnancy until after age 35 should seek testing and treatment, while “remaining realistic about the chances for success with infertility therapy.”

2.       1 in  8 couples, or 12% of women, are infertile, as they have trouble getting pregnant or sustaining a pregnancy

3.       There is a 13x increased chance of Attention Deficit Disorder among other health issues when men over 40 father children

4.       Those who do conceive at a later age face significant health risks: 80% of embryos from women over 40 years old carry chromosomal abnormalities, and five percent of newborns are affected by congenital disease.

By combing these challenges and giving people more options, Prelude is positioned to revolutionize the fertility industry. I would like to work with you to set up an interview with the founder of Prelude, Martin Varsavsky, to discuss this as well as why he is getting into this based on his own personal vested interest and past experiences.
