Brian G. Russell – believes “we need to look ahead at the significant natural growth” that occurs in time.  “The transportation needs of the future and the development of Monroe Blvd in a coordinated manner” are a top priority.    “I feel compelled to do things differently” he responded, on why he was running for office, in this, his first effort.  “I’ve not agreed with some of the current CC decisions, and referred to the restrictive Press Policy as a “mistake” even though it has been softened.  Fundamentally, “to limit discussions with the Press is not in congruence with the 1st Amendment to the Constitution… and I’m against restricting the free and open flow of information.”  He added that it’s a “good thing to have some adversarial relationships occur with the Press… and it’s of utmost importance for elected officials to discuss their feelings and thoughts openly and freely.”  Brian stated he was “more inclined to be analytical” and believes he can reduce the current tension he has felt at CC meetings by “respecting all opinions and refraining from participating in any rancor, to stay open and find the understanding to enable compromise.”

In response to the pending PWF, Brian believes the “completion of the PWF is a pressing need” He “does not agree with building it in a piecemeal fashion” and is “willing to bond, rather than pay as we go.”   He commented that the increased start-up, clean-up costs, together with future construction costs and the operational disruptions are strong reasons to get it done now.  He believes it would “save us money in the long run.”
