Fun in the sun for all
As the summer days come to a close, it’s always fun to look back at the activities we were able to enjoy. Several of these probably included getting wet in order to stay cool, especially since it was a very hot and dry summer. But let’s face it; water parks are not the cheapest places to go to, especially if you have a large family. So what’s the alternative? Splash pads of course. And with one located in Harrisville everyone can have the opportunity to cool off, without having to spend an arm and a leg.
The splash pad, located at1350 N. Highway 89, was built last year using a grant. It is maintained by the city which makes it free to the public. Bill Morris, city administrator of Harrisville, says maintaining the splash pad is simple and cheap since they don’t have to pay for all the hassles that come with owning a pool or a water park. In fact, the splash pad is only a small portion of the city’s parks and recreation budget. Covered in the budget includes all maintenance and chemicals needed to keep the splash pad nice and clean for everyone, which is nice for families who are looking to have a fun time while still saving money.
Ashlee Urry, of Harrisville, says her four girls love to play at the splash park. She says they love to sit on the bench that sprays up water, turn the water on and off and especially spray water at their unsuspecting mother. “They have a lot of playing there,” she says. “It’s a great family environment.”
Although it can get a bit crowded there on extremely hot days, it’s still a great place to enjoy going to for free. So, if you missed out on the splash pad this year, make sure to check it out next year. Whether you’re looking to get soaked or just enjoy the beautiful scenery, Harrisville’s splash pad is a great place to visit by yourself or with friends and family. The splash pad is open Monday-Saturday 10:00 A.M. to 8:00 P.M. Memorial Day through Labor Day.
