Abused cat found in Clearfield, $3K reward offered
Humane Society of Utah offers a reward for the arrest and conviction in another Clearfield, Utah case of animal abuse
A male 1-year-old orange tabby domestic cat with injuries caused from suspected abuse was found in the Clearfield, Utah area in close proximity to where Sage was found. Sage died from wounds inflicted by horrendous torture March 9, 2017. This unnamed orange tabby cat is currently under a veterinarian’s care and is expected to survive. Both cases are actively being investigated and details of this case are being intentionally withheld. It is unknown if both cases are related and will be treated as separate cases at this time, which is why the Humane Society of Utah (HSU) is offering a $3,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or people responsible for the abuse of this cat. The HSU hopes the reward assists Davis County Animal Care & Control and Clearfield Police in obtaining information required to identify and charge whoever is responsible for this allegedly intentional act of animal cruelty.
“We do not know for sure if the same person who tortured and killed Sage is responsible for abusing this cat,” said Deann Shepherd, HSU representative. “This case may be unrelated but coincidentally close in proximity, or the investigation may find that they are connected. We are offering a reward to help find information to solve this case as it stands. We strongly believe that the abuse of animals is a concern for our community and the person responsible needs to be apprehended.”
The owner of this cat has not yet been identified. If anyone is missing a pet that matches this description, they are asked to contact Davis County Animal Care & Control at 801-444-2200.
Anyone with information regarding who may be responsible for the abuse of this orange tabby cat is urged to contact Davis County Animal Care & Control at 801-444-2200. Tips can remain anonymous.

DENVER—New documents published today show years of communication and coordination between local Utah stakeholders and elected officials prior to President Obama permanently protecting Bears Ears as a national monument. The documents directly contradict multiple statements from Utah politicians who claimed the monument designation came as a surprise and without the consultation of state leaders.
The Center for Western Priorities issued the following statement from Deputy Director Greg Zimmerman:
“Despite the hardline rhetoric lobbed against the Bears Ears National Monument by Utah politicians, their internal communications make it clear as day: this region is not just deserving of the permanent protections granted last year, but President Obama’s team went to great lengths over several years to coordinate and collaborate with Utah leaders before protecting Bears Ears, the culmination of 80 years of conservation efforts.”
Interior Department documents reveal repeated contacts with Senator Orrin Hatch, Chairman Rob Bishop, Chairman Jason Chaffetz, and their staffs over four years since 2013, including meetings or calls with the Secretary in 2013, 2014, 2015, and 2016, as well as feedback in the form of technical assistance on their bill, the Public Lands Initiative, which never came up for a vote.
On July 18, 2016, following Interior Secretary Sally Jewell’s trip to Utah, a staffer to Utah Governor Gary Herbert emailed Nicole Buffa, Deputy Chief of Staff to Secretary Jewell, writing:
“As I recently relayed to the Governor’s Chief of Staff, your team orchestrated a comprehensive, balanced, well-run, and effective trip to southeast Utah. I also have to compliment you on the listening session on Saturday. We were worried it might get out of hand but it went off brilliantly. Kudos to you and your team!”
On September 13, 2016, an employee with the Utah School and Institutional Trust Lands Administration emailed staff at the Department of the Interior thanking them for meeting, writing:
“We truly appreciate the amount of time your office has devoted to the school trust land issue.”
On September 13, 2016, a staffer to Utah Senator Mike Lee emailed Nicole Buffa, writing:
“Since it is looking like Congress, the hardest working institution in America, is going to get out of dodge next week, we may not have the opportunity to introduce PLI… We are still reviewing your ta [technical assistance] and deciding how to proceed. Just wanted to keep you informed since you have been forthcoming with us.”
On November 3, 2016, a staffer to Utah Senator Mike Lee sent an email to inform Secretary Jewell’s staff of a meeting Senator Lee’s office had with tribal representatives, writing:
“The conversation went well. Both sides were conciliatory and regretted the current state of affairs. Much of the meeting was necessarily spent atoning and promising to work towards our shared goal: protecting Bears Ears.”

APRIL 12, 2017 - NEW YORK, NY - Psychedelic rock band, The Cuckoos, are exclusively streaming their self-titled debut EP with Relix. Listen HERE. "The quartet's blend of funk, blues and psychedelic sounds has evoked comparisons to Tame Impala, Joy Division and The Doors", Relix notes. "[Their EP] builds on the band's captivating blend of genres, evoking the 1960s through a contemporary lens." The 8-song collection, which will be available on 4/14, was recorded between a garage and a church in the heart of Austin and "tells the story of psychedelic love, heartbreak, and new beginnings", according to vocalist/keyboardist Kenneth Frost. In support of the record, the band will be playing shows in a number of Texas cities, including San Antonio, Houston and Dallas, in addition to their hometown of Austin. The band will also be touring overseas for the first time come this June. For more information on The Cuckoos, please visit: http://www.thecuckoosaustin.com/
Leading up to the release, The Cuckoos unveiled two tracks from the EP. Lead single, "Get It On", premiered with Glide Magazine, who described, "Charismatic lead singer Kenneth Frost definitely brings to mind Jim Morrison, but even with the presence of an organ there is a more modern dance groove happening that makes you want to gyrate." Likewise, follow-up single, "Mind Breakthrough", was featured on Pancakes & Whiskey, who praised the song saying, "Immediately after pressing play we are transported to another time, and possibly another dimension."
Drawing inspiration from vintage pop, psychedelic rock, funk and blues, The Cuckoos have been recognized for their ability to bring back the sounds of the 1960s in their original songs. Classic Rock Magazine christened their psychedelic garage rock "spectacular," declaring the band "hip young dudes who mine the late sixties acid rock scene for inspiration, but sound so authentic you'll think you're having a flashback."
The Cuckoos were formed in 2014 by lead vocalist/keyboardist, Kenneth Frost, and lead guitarist/backing vocalist, Dave North. To flesh out their lineup, North introduced Frost to a pair of his longtime friends, including powerhouse drummer Cole Koenning and bassist Eric Ross. Together, despite their young ages, the four musicians have quickly amassed a body of work that evokes a nostalgic classic-rock sound, yet remains fresh and innovative.
In their short time as a band, The Cuckoos have earned a number of accolades, including #1 Psychedelic Band to See Live by Classic Rock Magazine (Pink Floyd Issue), and #1 Emerging Psychedelic Band by The Deli Austin in 2015. "We just want to make music that makes people feel good and feel bad," Frost explains. "We just want them to feel something; something that's passionate and honest."
The Cuckoos' self-titled debut EP is out this Friday, 4/14.
