Special Event launches Utah’s new Women’s Leadership Institute

WHO/WHAT:        Business leaders will help launch the Women’s Leadership Institute in Utah, Thursday, by taking the ElevateHER Corporate Challenge to raise more women to leadership roles in Utah. Jeffery Tobias Halter, author of “Why Women, The Leadership Imperative to Advancing Women and Engaging Men”, will talk about how women leaders boost a company’s bottom line and elevate its reputation. Salt Lake Mayor Ben McAdams and Utah Lt. Governor Spencer Cox duke out the pros and cons of elevating women to leadership roles.

WHEN/WHERE:     Thursday, May 14, 2015, 4 – 6 p.m.

Zions Bank Founders Room – 15th Floor, One South Main Street, Salt Lake City

WHY:                      Elevating the stature of women’s leadership boosts the vitality of businesses and enhances quality of life. The ElevateHER Corporate Challenge encourages Utah organizations to:

·         Increase the percentage of women in senior leadership positions.

·         Increase the retention rate of women at all levels of the organization.

·         Increase the number of women on your company’s board of directors or extend influence in your industry by encouraging women to serve on paid boards.

·         Monitor pay by gender and other factors and close identified gaps.

·         Establish a leadership development and/or mentoring program for women or enhance existing programs.

·         Recruit women to run for public office and give follow-up support.

·         Create your own innovative ways to elevate the stature of women’s leadership both in and outside of your organization

Utah is first in many measures, but the state will fall behind if it fails to meet the growing demand for diversity by utilizing the full capacity of women. The Women’s Leadership Institute elevates the stature of women’s leadership by improving society’s understanding of the value of diversity in leadership roles, training women in leadership skills and conveying the positive impact women leaders have on economic development, vitality and the overall health of the state of Utah. Elevating the stature of women’s leadership requires men and women actively engaged in the advancement of women, and women willing to step into leadership roles. Young women need advocates who cultivate space for them and mentors who sustain their advancement. Young women need to SEE what they can BE.
