City Clean-up - The City-wide clean-up will be held May 15-22. Dumpsters will be located in the parking lot between the City Hall and the fire station. There will be a trailer for metals and batteries, and also an area for electronics. This is a service to the residents of Willard; and, to continue, we need residents to abide by the following:
DO NOT DUMP:
· Stumps, tree limbs, or yard waste. Alternatives are the green waste area in Brigham City or obtain a residential burn permit. The Box Elder County landfill also offers Pay Once on the 1st, 3rd and 5th Saturdays of every month for the public.
· Concrete or construction debris
· Hazardous waste electronics – DO NOT LEAVE - The recycler is unable to take CRT Monitors or tube televisions. (They will accept LED/LCD television and monitors, washers & dryers, and other newer electronics.)

1st grades fieldtrip to TMC to see the school and meet the teachers
May 19th Willard School is having a Career/Hobby day for the first grade students to participate in, where they will spend the day going from station to station learning about different careers in an interactive and engaging way for the students to learn.
May 22nd Willard School is participating in a whole-school reading project of Charlotte’s Web. Each day one chapter is read, with a question for the child to answer and turn in each day for a chance drawing for prizes. Each week, there are activities that coincide with the week’s chapters that have been read. All leading up to the big day of May 22, where a county fair day will the highlight of finishing of the story. The kids will spend the day participating in county fair fun, with a chance to win prizes, and everyone will go home with a book to read. Come join in the fun to see what art projects the kids have done for their entry in the fair, 9:00 am – 2:30 on May 22 at the Willard School.
May 24th Beach Day for Kindergarten students
May 26th Last day of School – all Kindergarten students come in the morning and are done at 10:45. 1st graders get out at 12:45. Breakfast will be served the last day and the PTA will provide the 1st graders with pizza for lunch.
ATTENTION: 4th of July volunteers needed. Volunteers are needed to help plan, prepare, and help during the 4th of July annual celebration. This has been a long-standing celebration for the community and residents past and present. Council member Profaizer is calling for volunteers and ideas to make this year’s event even better. On May 11, on Highway 89 in South Willard, there was a gas leak and the highway was shut down. As part of the Highway shoulder work continues, you may want to avoid the area by taking the freeway.
On May 2, a memorial honoring Utah Highway Patrol trooper Eric Ellsworth has been put up in Box Elder County right off I-15. A family decided to build this on their own property with their own money. If you have a chance to see to along the freeway between the exit at Smith & Edwards and Willard bay exit. It’s on the east side of the freeway.
It's reassuring to know that there are good people still out there who do great things for the right reasons who are just as happy remaining anonymous after having done it. The Law Enforcement Community in our county knows who they are, and we truly appreciate them.
The Utah Division of Water Resources can neither confirm nor deny that hundreds of Utahans have been consumed by the Graboids from Tremors after multiple underground monsters broke through their landscapes due to shallow, overwatered root systems.
“It is OK this time of year to let your lawn’s roots reach a little deeper. This will make your landscape more resilient in the long-term, and your grass will be greener for it,” said Faye Rutishauser, Utah Division of Water Resources Water Conservation Coordinator. “Plus, shallow root systems put little protection between you and the Graboids,” Rutishauser said.
As a result, the division is asking most Utahans to wait a little longer before running their sprinkler systems, and to spot water dry areas. #H2Oath #SlowTheFlow
Burn Permits - NO BURN PERMITS WILL BE ISSUED UNLESS THE CLEARING INDEX IS ABOVE 500 for Airshed 4. Links to check the index are available at www.willardcity.com . The Division of Air Quality regulates this, not the County Fire Marshal. If the Burn Index is not above 500 on the day you want to burn do not call for a burn permit.
Agricultural Burn Permits - Agriculture burning falls into a little different category and permits can be issued year round, subject to air quality.
Lots of complaints are coming in to the police department about cats. If you feed them, please take care of them. Make sure they are spayed or neutered and clean up after them. Neighbors often don’t share the love you might have of cats and certainly don’t enjoy cleaning up after them.
DOGS – As the weather warms up there are always an increase in dog complaints. If you are a dog owner, license your dog, keep them on a leash when walking them, control barking and clean up after them if they “do their business” anywhere but your yard!
Vehicle burglary – Spring always brings an increase in calls for items stolen out of vehicles. Lock your vehicles, don’t leave purses, bags, electronics, coins, personal information or other items in plain view.
Door-to-Door Sales - It’s Spring, and there is always door–to-door sales people around. We have received complaints regarding asphalt coatings or resurfacing. Door-to-door sales people are required to have a Willard City Business License. It is ok to ask them. If they cannot show you the license, call Box Elder County Dispatch at 435-734-3800 and an officer will check them out. Don’t pay up front and if you suspect fraud contact the police immediately.
