New book centers on kindness, caring and responsibility
Debuting author Debra Addison Steffens announces the release of ‘The Adventures of Shadow, the Almost Black Kitten’
PLAINS, Texas — Debuting author Debra Addison Steffens wanted to show children that kindness and caring are important and that they can change the world. Through her first book titled “The Adventures of Shadow, the Almost Black Kitten” (published by Balboa Press), she aims to teach children that everyone needs to be responsible for their actions and to show that love can be found in lots of unexpected places, even from a small shy little kitten.
The book is the first in a series of stories about a kitten’s adventures through her eyes. The story is based on the life of the author’s cat named Shadow and is a true story. Steffens describes the book as a positive, feel-good book for all ages.
Filled with colorful illustrations that is hoped to delight young readers, the book emphasizes that values such as responsibility and kindness matter. Also, the book teaches readers that love, caring, and compassion make a difference in all lives.
“I hope that they will see that every life matters, no matter how small. I want them to know that good values such as kindness and caring are important in all our daily lives. I want them to be entertained and I want them to enjoy the story and pictures. I hope that they will want to read my next books as well as other books and will develop a love for reading, that they will have for the rest of their lives,” Steffens concludes. She also hopes that her book will urge others to rescue and adopt animals of their own. She hopes they receive the love of those pets and have their lives enriched by them.

About the Author
Debra Addison Steffens was raised on a working farm and ranch in West Texas, where she learned to care for and love animals. This rural life is where she learned the values she would live by, such as responsibility, caring and kindness. These values were carried on and taught as an elementary teacher to the students she loved. Steffens was always in search of books that valued positive traits for her students to read. Steffens is retired from teaching and makes her home with her husband and Shadow on the same farm and ranch, which is still full of animal friends.

ERIC ELIASON: PRESIDENT TRUMP HAS IT PRECISELY BACKWARD
United Utah Party candidate has strong words in response to the president’s remarks
LOGAN, UT… Eric Eliason, the United Utah Party candidate in the First Congressional District, had strong words in response to President Trump’s remarks in recent days.
“I never thought I’d live to see an American president fawn over a Russian dictator the day after calling the European Union a ‘foe,’” Eliason said. “This president has it precisely backward, and he’s doing tremendous damage to our most valuable relationships across the world. President Trump refused to hold Mr. Putin and Russia accountable for meddling in the 2016 election, and he then proceeded to throw the entire US intelligence community under the bus by indicating that Mr. Putin's version of events might be more correct than theirs.”
Eliason said this shows the need to change the partisan dynamic in Washington. “The First District needs a representative willing to hold any president accountable, regardless of party,” he said. “Rob Bishop isn’t willing to stand up to this president, and I am.”
