A student’s ability to read is a critical predictor of educational and lifelong success. In 2013, Mississippi enacted the Literacy-Based Promotion Act, ensuring a comprehensive approach to teaching all students to read starting as early as kindergarten. Since then, students across the state have made significant gains in reading outcomes. The Magnolia State is committed to raising expectations and engaging all stakeholders in literacy. Today, parents, educators, policy makers and community partners are gathering to discuss improving student achievement and literacy success.

Boys Of Fall are an pop/rock band from Detroit, MI. Prior to 2017, Boys Of Fall toured vigorously (including a South American stint with Saves The Day) while finding the right home to release an upcoming album. While the band was growing and thriving, they eventually faced a fateful decision of going on indefinite hiatus, upon which they released their 2016 Thank You And Goodbye LP.
As fate would have it, their fans responded resoundingly to the break up album; the band was rejuvenated and found a new reason and meaning to continue growing. Their comeback included signing to InVogue Records and releasing the highly celebrated EP Chasing Lonely. They toured North America for the entirety of 2018, including highlighted tours with Belmont, We Were Sharks, and shows with All Time Low and Vans Warped Tour.
After releasing their follow-up LP Better Moments (produced by Andrew Wade), Boys Of Fall co-headlined the InVogue Records Tour with In Her Own Words, followed by successful holiday events to round out 2018. The band continues to expand their audience in 2019 with more headline tours and festival appearances, in addition to celebrating their vinyl release of Better Moments Gold Edition as well as a co-release with Kayzo.
Boys of Fall is Michael Martenson (vocals), Jake Cemer (vocals/guitar), Dan Quigley (guitar), Eli Sleeker (bass), and Scott Solomon (drums).

VOID OF VISION
Release New Album
Out Now via UNFD
September 13, 2019 - Melbourne metalcore fourpiece Void of Vision are assaulting audiences everywhere with the release of their blistering new album Hyperdaze, out now via UNFD. Featuring singles "Hole In Me," "Babylon," and "If Only,"Hyperdaze is an album of "Pure hatred, self-loathing and nihilism," explains lead singer Jack Bergin. Fans can check it out now at unfd.lnk.to/Hyperdaze.
Though there's no positivity or light to be drawn from the album, Bergin asserts that there's a lot to unpack. Hyperdaze is an invitation into the depths of his world, with its creation process offering a steep exercise in catharsis for him as an individual and an artist. The result is a belting 11-track release that laces raw anger and vulnerability between superior musicianship.
On the band's progression since their 2016 debut full-length, Bergin explains, "Children Of Chrome was an experiment, Hyperdaze is an experience."
"[Hyperdaze] is the most we've explored each and every detail that we put onto an album," he continues. "From fine-tuning and tweaking all the synths and accompaniment to the grittiness and aggression of the vocals, we really wanted the pure anger that went into making these recordings to translate out the other side - something I feel we haven't quite grasped on previous records."
Chaotic, clever and cathartic, Hyperdaze is out now via UNFD. Atop the release, Void Of Vision will thrash stages in Australia, Europe and the UK in support of Northlane, and take to Heaven And Hell Festival this weekend alongside the likes of The Amity Affliction, Crossfaith, Underoath, Make Them Suffer, and Trophy Eyes. RELEASES FIFTH STUDIO ALBUM
PROXY: AN A.N.I.M.O. STORY
LISTEN HERE
NORTH AMERICAN TOUR KICKS OFF
SEPTEMBER 19 IN LOS ANGELES
"On PROXY, Being As An Ocean have raised the stakes. Both sonically and psychically."
September 13, 2019 - Alpine, CA - American rock band, Being As An Ocean, have released their fifth studio album, PROXY: An A.N.I.M.O. Story, today. The 14-track record is a sci-fi themed concept record from the mind of frontman Joel Quartuccio, and the home of singles "Play Pretend" and "Find Our Way." Fans can listen to the album in full now at https://backl.ink/PROXY.
The album stands as a monumental, year-long labor of love, sculpted and breathed into reality. Its inaugural single's music video lifts the veil on a vast creative world from which the band has pulled its inspiration and artistic guidance, exposing a narrative, not unlike our own; an existence experienced through the human lens of empathy, suffering, loss, longing, regret, reconciliation, sacrifice, joy, and love.
Being As An Ocean will be hitting the road for a North American tour, kicking off on September 19 in Los Angeles, and wrapping up on October 17 in San Francisco. Following those dates, the band will be touring across Europe for the entire month of November. All tour dates can be viewed below or here.
Being As An Ocean is the sound of the push and pull of circumstance versus ambition; of facts and figures overwhelmed by vibe and mystery. It's a sonic landscape littered with stories of strength from weakness and the beauty in tragedy. It's poetry in motion.
PROXY: An A.N.I.M.O. Story is nothing short of a creative milestone for what was already a breathtaking band. Joel Quartuccio mines the depths of his psyche with distinctive power; Tyler Ross evolves from songwriter and guitarist into co-producer; guitarist and melodic vocalist Michael McGough soars to new heights; co-founder and bassist Ralph Sica anchors the proceedings. BAAO charges forth into a brand new era.
Grammy-nominated producer and collaborator, Zakk Cervini (Blink-182, Poppy, Halsey) helped the band to build these songs from the ground up in the studio. He also worked with them on last year's "Alone," which emerged from the studio in just 12 hours. This new process carried forward into the making of Proxy. Each song sprang from the collective. Nothing was considered "finished" until everyone shared enthusiasm and satisfaction in the results.
Being As An Ocean is that rare heavy entity that offers a full experience for the head and the heart. They stand out in a sea of rock sameness, filling an ocean of their own, embracing vibe and spirit over precision and safety.
PROXY: An A.N.I.M.O. Story is out now. For more information, please visit https://beingasanocean.com/.

I talked to Paul Steinhauser of the Concord Monitor (here) during my week-long trip to the Granite State.
I explained to the Monitor exactly why I'm running: "If there’s ever a moment we need someone who can unite this country, it is today or we’re not going to meet those challenges abroad or pass policies at home -- and that’s why I got in."
The Concord Monitor went on to explain I wanted “to ‘secure' the beachhead of Iowa… then move off the beach” to New Hampshire.
The Eagle-Tribune also talks about the second reason I entered the race, during my visit to Salem: "Lucy Gagnon of Salem and Kay Galloway of Atkinson noted the lack of foreign policy by others in the 2020 presidential race after hearing retired Navy Vice Adm. Joe Sestak make his pitch to be the next commander in chief at a Salem home during a campaign stop... Sestak talked about how he would build international relationships back up, through rejoining the Paris Agreement on climate change and building on other treaties. Impressed with his knowledge, Salem voters were intrigued with the candidate in the already flooded primary field."
As you will have seen on the debate stage, there's a serious lack of foreign policy and national security experience in this race. If you believe we need a Commander-in-Chief who understands the power of our diplomacy, our economy, and our ideals, as well as that of our military — including the limitations of it — and that we must convene the world under U.S. leadership if we are to face the defining challenges of our time, then please contribute.
Respectfully,
Joe Sestak
Come on board. We encourage you to visit our website
and get involved in these challenging and wonderful times.

Settlement with EPA and the Department of Justice Prohibits Performance Diesel, Inc. from Selling Diesel Engine Defeat Devices
DENVER (September 12, 2019) — Today, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) announced a settlement with Performance Diesel Inc. (PDI) to resolve alleged violations of the Clean Air Act (CAA) associated with the manufacture, sale and installation of aftermarket products that defeat the emissions control systems of heavy-duty diesel engines. As part of the settlement, PDI has agreed to stop the sale of all products the government alleges violate the CAA. PDI will also pay a civil penalty of $1,100,000 over two years due to their limited financial ability to pay a higher penalty.
“Performance Diesel Inc. manufactured, sold and installed thousands of aftermarket defeat devices, and as a result thousands of heavy-duty trucks now operate without the filters, catalysts and other emissions controls that keep our air clean,” said EPA Assistant Administrator for Enforcement and Compliance Assurance Susan Bodine. “Today’s settlement will prevent future violations by requiring PDI to ensure that their products do not adversely affect emissions.”
"This settlement prohibits PDI from selling illegal devices that defeat motor vehicle emissions controls and make an end run around federal laws that protect the public’s health,” said Principal Deputy Assistant Attorney General Jonathan D. Brightbill of the Justice Department’s Environment and Natural Resources Division. “The Justice Department will not tolerate this abuse of law and will continue to prosecute those responsible for trading in these illegal products.”
The United States alleges that PDI sold at least 5,549 aftermarket products that defeat the emissions control systems of heavy-duty diesel engines in violation of the CAA. Before May 1, 2018, PDI manufactured, sold and installed electronic tuning software, known as “tunes,” that allowed PDI to disable emissions control devices, or otherwise bypass, defeat or render inoperative parts of the engine used to comply with CAA emission standards. PDI’s aftermarket products are designed for use with numerous models of heavy-duty diesel engines manufactured by Caterpillar, Cummins, Detroit Diesel, International and Paccar.
Included in the terms of this settlement, PDI must:
The settlement has been lodged in the U.S. District Court for the State of Utah for a period of 30 days for public notice and comment. The first penalty payment is due within thirty days of entry of the Consent Decree. To read the Consent Decree: https://www.justice.gov/enrd/consent-decrees.
EPA has recently added a National Compliance Initiative on Stopping Aftermarket Defeat Devices for Vehicles and Engines. This case is an important step in that initiative. Secretary Perdue Statement on EPA WOTUS Announcement
(Washington, D.C., September 12, 2019) – U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Sonny Perdue today praised the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) for taking another step to fulfill President Trump’s pledge to repeal and replace the Waters of the United States (WOTUS) rule.
“Repealing the WOTUS rule is a major win for American agriculture. The extreme overreach from the past Administration had government taking the productivity of the land people had worked for years,” Secretary Perdue said. “Farmers and ranchers are exceptional stewards of the land, taking great care to preserve it for generations to come. President Trump is making good on his promise to reduce burdensome regulations to free our producers to do what they do best – feed, fuel, and clothe this nation and the world.”
Background:
One of President Trump’s earliest acts in office was an Executive Order directing EPA and the Army Corps to review and potentially replace the Obama Administration’s definition of the “Waters of the United States.” The EPA and the Army Corps have repealed the 2015 Rule that impermissibly expanded the definition of “Waters of the United States” under the Clean Water Act. The agencies upcoming action will restore the regulatory text that existed prior to the 2015 Rule and will end the inconsistent regulatory patchwork that has created uncertainty and has hindered projects from moving forward that can benefit both the environment and the economy. The repeal remedies the legal and procedural deficiencies of the 2015 Rule, addresses the extensive litigation surrounding it, and recodifies and restores a regulatory process that has been in place for years. The new rule will provide regulatory certainty to our nation's farmers and businesses as to the definition of “Waters of the United States.”
