Perry Shooting Range continues to increase in usage. The range is one of the largest shooting ranges in Utah and is the largest North of Salt Lake. People come from around the State to the area called a shooting cluster which is defined as businesses and clubs and shooting ranges. Duncan Murray of Perry City says that this area may very well become a destination for the shooting sports as well as those practicing their rights protected as defined by the second amendment to the Constitution. This is handled by volunteers and voluntary efforts in the larger sense.
Perry tax rates have remained steady for several years now during these “lean” times. Many of the projects happening in the City are supported by volunteers. The Perry City administrator says the city spends the vast majority of tax money for essential services such as police. He says the City provides options for people to choose to participate in new projects such as the shooting range and the new soccer park. He says that the current administration has a vision of community involvement.
Mayor Nelson, who is not running for Mayor again, has served for eight years as Mayor and nearly as long as City Councilman or has served in other positions. He is expected to continue service to the community in other capacities. Others have formerly served as Councilmen, and are continuing to serve in Perry. There is going to be a primary election in August for the Mayor and two councilmen seats. Because there are no incumbents running specifically for the same seats, there is guaranteed to be new faces in January when the newly elected officials take the oath of office.
