Senator Hatch Comments on Passage of CCDBG
Washington, D.C.—Senator Orrin Hatch, R-Utah, a member of the Senate Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions (HELP) Committee released the following statement on the passage of the bipartisan, bicameral reauthorization of the Child Care and Development Block Grant Act of 2014 (CCDBG):
“I was honored to work alongside Senators Burr and Mikulski on this much-needed reform in child care licensing, monitoring, and safety. Too many young parents, faced with financial hardship, have to choose between providing for their children and caring for them. I'm thrilled that we’ve been able to work towards a solution to that dilemma. By empowering states to direct the use of funds to train providers and improve the quality of care, we’ve also achieved a milestone in rolling back onerous federal regulations. I look forward to the President signing this bill into law.”
Senator Hatch has spent his career seeking ways to protect and help our children. In 1989 he backed legislation that would provide funds to lower- and middle-income working parents to help them pay for childcare. In 1997 he created the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP), designed to help provide children with health insurance.
