Governor Herbert statement on the death of Robert D. Hales
SALT LAKE CITY (Oct. 1, 2017) – Gov. Gary R. Herbert issued a statement following the death of Robert D. Hales of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints:
Jeanette and I join millions of people around the world in mourning the passing, and celebrating the life, of my friend Elder Robert D. Hales. I will always remember the honor of working alongside Elder Hales in efforts to lift and enhance some of our local institutions. He was always friendly. He was a man with no guile. I consider him an extraordinarily humble and spiritual leader. The state of Utah and its citizens are better because of his example and his personal ministry. He will be missed but not forgotten. My prayers are with his loving wife Mary and the Hales family at this time.

Governor orders flags lowered in honor of victims of Las Vegas attack
SALT LAKE CITY (Oct. 2, 2017) – President Donald Trump has issued a directive to lower flags to half-staff at all federal facilities in honor of the victims of the attack in Las Vegas yesterday. Per this directive, Utah Governor Gary R. Herbert has ordered the flags of the United States of America and the state of Utah to be flown at half-staff at all facilities for the same duration. Individuals, businesses, schools, municipalities, counties and other government subdivisions are encouraged to fly flags at half-staff until sunset on Oct. 6, 2017.
