Mark your calendar for the movie in Barker’s park on July 28th is Finding Nemo. Bring blankets and chairs and enjoy the movie. Starts about 9:00 pm (at dusk). Don’t forget the bug spray West Nile Virus has been found in a number of areas in Northern Utah.
West Nile Virus Alert. The Box Elder Mosquito Abatement District was recently informed by the Utah State Public Health Laboratory that a mosquito pool (sample) tested positive for West Nile virus in the county. This sample was from Bear River City. This is the first positive pool in Box Elder County this year. The virus has only been confirmed in Bear River City thus far, but it is possible that the virus could be more widespread at this point. We are announcing this to make the county aware that West Nile virus season has started. With the 24th of July coming up, please take proper precautions if you are outside after dusk. Be sure to wear long sleeve shirts and pants. Mosquito Repellent with DEET is also a great way to avoid mosquito bites. Please share this message with your friends and family to keep them safe this weekend and in the next few weeks to come.
A word from the Mayor is the budget for 2017-2018 has been approved. With notable items adding a small increase in the hours the recreation programs are open. There is a large ticket item that is needed, an all-wheel drive plow/dump truck will be purchased. Also there is a significate investment on the road maintance for the city. The police department will be adding a new full time officer that will help with the overlapping and times when double coverage is needed, this will put a -$79,000 to the city’s budget with small increase to the property tax this can be covered without dipping into the rainy day fund.
