Sen. Lee Responds to Senate Vote on Yemen Resolution

WASHINGTON – Sen. Mike Lee (R-UT) issued the following statement Tuesday after the Senate voted to table a War Powers resolution that would have ended U.S. involvement in Saudi Arabia’s war in Yemen.

“The power to declare war belongs to Congress,” Sen. Lee said. “By tabling this measure today, we have chosen yet again to abdicate our constitutional responsibility.”

My Fellow Republicans,

164 years ago today, in Ripon, Wisconsin, the Republican Party was formed to oppose the spread of slavery into the western territories. It was the proud beginning of our Party’s support of Civil Rights, the Women’s Suffrage movement, and a long distinguished list of being on the right side of history.

Today’s 10th Circuit decision comes after much unrest and divisiveness within the Utah Republican Party.  Nearly a year ago, I was elected upon the promise of restoring fiscal responsibility and Party unity.

Through the tireless work of your Party’s officers, and the generosity of many donors, the Party is now fiscally sound! I follow the counsel of today’s opinion and “open the door to the roughly 600,000 people across the state of Utah” who are registered Republicans and invite them to take an active role in the Utah Republican Party, commencing with tonight’s caucuses and continuing through the upcoming primaries and into November’s general elections.

Remember who we are. There is strength in unity. Let us tear down that which separates and weakens us. “A house divided, cannot stand.” It’s time for Utah Republicans to heal, and to work together. Let us choose a better way, and let’s begin today.

Sincerely,

Rob Anderson, Chairman

Utah Republican Party

United Utah Party Caucus Hits Nearly 700

The United Utah Party held caucus meetings in 18 locations across the state and nearly 700 people attended. Caucuses were held in nine counties with multiple locations in Salt Lake and Utah counties.

“We were astounded by the turnout,” said Richard Davis, United Utah Party chair. “Clearly, there are many Utahns wanting a new alternative. They are glad we are here to provide that alternative.”

The party was formed last year, won nine percent of the vote in last year’s Congressional special election, and is fielding 19 candidates for office this year, the largest number of candidates of any third party.
