Lt. Gov. Cox challenges legislators to stay fit and healthy

SALT LAKE CITY (Jan. 30, 2015) – Lt. Gov. Spencer J. Cox has challenged members of the Legislature to join him in a contest aimed at improving eating and exercise habits during the legislative session and setting an example to constituents about the benefits of eating right and staying fit.

“I know firsthand how difficult it is to find time to exercise and to be disciplined about what you eat during the session,” said Lt. Gov. Cox. “For 45 days there seems to be a never-ending line of buffets, soda fountains, desserts and Aggie Ice Cream. Saying “no” was a constant struggle, but over time it became easier. Not only did I lose weight, but I slept better and thought more clearly.”

The lieutenant governor’s 2015 Legislative Fitness Challenge runs through the end of the session when scores will be tallied to determine the fittest legislator. Each week, the lieutenant governor will send specific challenges to legislators for extra points. Additionally, the lieutenant governor has provided resource links on his fitness challenge website. Those tweeting about the challenge are using the hashtag, #LGFitnessChallenge.
