Nominees announced for 5th District Juvenile Court vacancy
SALT LAKE CITY – The 5th District Judicial Nominating Commission has selected nominees for a vacancy on the 5th District Juvenile Court. This vacancy results from the retirement of Judge Thomas Higbee, April 30, 2018. The 5th Judicial District includes Beaver, Iron, and Washington counties.
The nominees for the vacancy are: Jack Burns, attorney, Burns Law Office; Eric Gentry, deputy county attorney, Washington County Attorney’s Office; Troy Little, chief deputy attorney, Iron County Attorney’s Office; Julie Nelson, assistant attorney general, Utah Attorney General’s Office; Jay Winward, attorney, Winward Law PLLC.
Written comments can be submitted to the 5th District Judicial Nominating Commission Chair Cindy Bulloch at judicialvacancies@utah.gov or Commission on Criminal and Juvenile Justice, P.O. Box 142330, Salt Lake City, UT 84114-2330. The deadline for written comments is noon Jan. 15, 2018. The Nominating Commission may request further information or conduct an investigation of the nominees after reviewing public comments. After the public comment period, the names will be sent to Gov. Gary R. Herbert, who will have 30 days to make an appointment. Gov. Herbert’s appointee is subject to confirmation by the Utah Senate.

Senator Dabakis Tells "Stories From My Soul" in Unusual One Man Show at SLAC
'Stories From my Soul' is a two-year effort by Senator Jim Dabakis and Utah director Charles Lynn Frost. It takes the audience from Dabakis' tough childhood in inner city Massachusetts, to his conversion to the LDS Church at age 11, on to his enhanced departure from BYU, his 13 year stint on Utah radio and TV, a ten year move to Soviet Russia, living through AIDS, activism, and his political career.
There will be three performances of a 75-minute one man show, January 13 - 14, 2018 at Salt Lake Acting Company.
Director Charles Lynn Frost spoke about the production saying, "This theatrical style one-man show promises laughter, sentiment, courage, suspense, family, love, and a lifetime of going against the grain. You won’t want to miss Jim sharing the stories that were shapers of his life. I guarantee you’ll leave highly entertained, surprised, and uplifted."
