GOOD COMPANY THEATRE SWASHBUCKLES ONTO A CHAOTIC 1930s FILM SET IN JIM CHRISTIAN’S PIRATED!
August 13-22 | Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Mondays at 8pm | Ogden Amphitheater
Ogden, Utah – Good Company Theatre (GCT) is thrilled to partner with the Ogden Amphitheater and Chamber Orchestra Ogden to produce the musical Pirated! by celebrated Utah musical theatre mainstay Jim Christian. The show is a hilarious romp that turns the Gilbert and Sullivan musical The Pirates of Penzance on its head.
Set in the 1930s just as sound is making its way into motion pictures, the story centers n a tyrannical film director caught between eras. Hi cast is made up of silent stars that look the part but sound a mess. So, he hires a group of camera unready vocalists to dub over their voices. Soon the two groups clash, and the production turns unwieldy as the director struggles to keep his shoot from careening out of control.
“Since the beginning, we’ve wanted GCT to host off-site productions,” explains Good Company Theatre Co-Director Alicia Washington. “We’re excited to be working with Ogden Amphitheater to realize such a fantastic musical.
“Pirated! is a complete musical theatre experience,” states GCT Co-Director Camille Washington. “From the opening number the show is funny and charming, the music is fantastic, and the story is great for people of all ages.”
This production stars Gary Pimentall (HMS Pinafore, 9 to 5) as Rodger Marshall, Liz Corona (Upright Citizens Brigade, Los Angeles, Urinetown) as Rita James, Sean Bishop (Xanadu, Urinetown) as Daniel Brown, Kaitlyn Hipwell (Nice Work If You Can Get It) as Constance Marshall, and Mary Anderson-Bailey (A Funny Thing Happened On The Way To The Forum, Company) as Gloria De Luc. It also features performances by 22 other local actors (full cast list available on request). The show is directed and choreographed by Jim Christian. Nicholas Maughan serves as Music Director. Chamber Orchestra Ogden is conducted by Michael A. Palumbo, DA.
Pirated! runs August 13, 15, 18, 19, 20, and 22 at 8pm at the Ogden Amphitheater. Gates open at 7pm. Tickets are $15 for general admission, and $20 for reserved. They can be purchased in advance at goodcotheatre.com or at the door before each performance. This show is recommended for ages 7 and up. Runtime: 120 minutes with a 15-minut intermission.

Summary:
Tomorrow, a group of Ogden, Utah, residents working with the Institute for Justice, a national public interest law firm, will announce the formation of the Ogden Alliance Against Eminent Domain Abuse (Ogden Alliance), a new community group aimed at fighting the city’s illegitimate abuse of blight designations and eminent domain. The residents will also distribute yard signs throughout the neighborhood that read “Hands Off My Home.”
The formation of Ogden Alliance follows the city’s recently delayed attempt to declare a nine-block area of Ogden “blighted”—the legal precursor to using eminent domain in Utah. Since then, residents have organized themselves, spoken out about the blight designation, and questioned the city’s plans for the neighborhood.
The city has responded by clouding the conversation, suggesting that this is all a misunderstanding and assured residents that the city has no plans to use eminent domain. But despite the city’s assurances, Ogden officials continually refuse to take eminent domain off the table. In fact, Tom Christopulos, Ogden’s Community and Economic Development Director, even admitted that eminent domain is his agency’s “trump card” and that he needs it to provide extra “leverage” against property owners.
“There is no misunderstanding here; the city’s intentions are crystal clear,” said Ogden Alliance member Dianne Egbert. “If they weren’t going to use eminent domain, then they’d take it off the table. But they won’t, and that tells us everything we need to know.”
Egbert continued: “The city has no business using its power to ‘leverage’ its residents or use eminent domain as a ‘trump card.’ That’s not how government is supposed to treat their constituents. Ogden has no right to threaten our homes just because they want something else in the neighborhood. We’re uniting as a single voice to clear the air about Ogden’s illegitimate efforts to declare our perfectly fine homes ‘blighted’ and defend our rights as homeowners.”
Salt Lake City has partnered with the Community Foundation of Utah to administer $25,000 in scholarship grants to local nonprofit competitive youth athletic organizations. Our goal is to make competitive sports programs more accessible for low-income Salt Lake City youth by providing individual athletic scholarships through teams, clubs, and athletic organizations.
Qualifying non-profit teams, clubs, and athletic organizations will be selected on an equitable basis and must demonstrate a commitment to and knowledge of youth athletics, as well as the ability to administer the funds in a fiscally responsible manner.
