Nominees announced for 7th District Juvenile Court vacancy

SALT LAKE CITY – The 7th District Judicial Nominating Commission has selected nominees for a vacancy on the 7th District Juvenile Court.  The vacancy results from the retirement of Judge Scott Johansen, effective Jan. 1, 2016.  The 7th Judicial District includes Carbon, Emery, Grand and San Juan counties.  

The nominees for the vacancy are: Christian Bryner, deputy county attorney, Carbon County Attorney’s Office; Craig Bunnell, managing attorney, Utah Office of Guardian ad Litem; Angela Hamilton, assistant attorney general, Office of the Utah Attorney General; Jeremiah Humes, deputy county attorney, Carbon County Attorney’s Office; Amanda Torgerson, partner, Torgerson Law Offices, P.C.

Written comments can be submitted to the 7th District Judicial Nominating Commission Chair Mark Holyoak at judicialvacancies@utah.gov or Commission on Criminal and Juvenile Justice, P.O. Box 142330, Salt Lake City, UT 84114-2330.  The deadline for written comments is noon May 6, 2016. The Nominating Commission may request further information or conduct an investigation of the nominees after reviewing public comments.  After the public comment period, the names will be sent to Gov. Gary R. Herbert, who will have 30 days to make an appointment. Gov. Herbert’s appointee is subject to confirmation by the Utah Senate.

Gov. Herbert Appoints New Public Information Officer

 

SALT LAKE CITY (April 27, 2016) – Utah Governor Gary R. Herbert has appointed Kirsten Rappleye as Public Information Officer following Aimee Edwards’ transition to the Governor’s Office of Economic Development earlier this month.

 

Prior to joining the governor’s staff, Rappleye served as assistant to the Utah Senate’s majority caucus, managing communications strategy, media relations and constituent services. She received a bachelor’s degree in law and constitutional studies from Utah State University.
 

“We are excited to have Kirsten join Gov. Herbert’s staff in this new capacity,” said Jon Cox, the governor’s communications director. “With her past legislative experience overseeing communications for the Utah Senate, she will be an invaluable addition to the governor’s staff.”

Governor to kick off Military Appreciation Month with bill signing

 

What:

Gov. Gary R. Herbert will sign three military bills to benefit current servicemembers and veterans during a kickoff ceremony for National Military Appreciation Month. HB 98 provides death benefits for the families of Utah National Guard members who die in the line of duty, HB 135 grants free admission to state parks for disabled veterans, and SB 35 creates a special license plate indicating the campaign or theater in which a veteran served.
