Hatch: President Is Making a Mistake By Acting Unilaterally on Second Amendment
WASHINGTON—President Obama held a press conference on Tuesday to announce new unilateral executive action to restrict Americans’ Second Amendment rights. While the specifics of the new effort remain unclear, many lawmakers are concerned about any effort to undermine constitutional rights through simple executive action. Senator Orrin G. Hatch, R-Utah, a former chairman and current member of the Senate Committee on the Judiciary, issued the following statement:
“The President is making a mistake by pushing for executive action to limit Americans’ constitutional rights. Important discussions about our fundamental freedoms are best suited for the legislative process, and once again, President Obama would rather play politics than take the time to make sound policy, based on consensus, that can succeed in both preserving Americans' cherished rights and keeping us safe.”
