Trump Won’t Make It Past Easter
It was the slump in his shoulders as he walked alone crossing the grass on the White house lawn the other day. He had just exited Marine One, his sweet presidential helicopter ride, with his always uncomfortable salute to the Marine guard at he bottom of the helicopter steps.
Walking alone he looked lost. No First Lady on his arm, no dog, no kids ..no joy. The joy we have seen with all the past presidents in this familiar, iconic scene. They all had offered a crisp, proud salute to the Marine guard in his dress blue uniform. They had a spring in their step, a purposeful walk. Proud, confident. The American President.
I didn’t see that with this President. He looked bored, lonely. Not sure of himself.
Not loved or beloved.
Defeated.
It’s still winter, so his long black coat hides his frumpy, out-of-shape, overindulgent body. He looks deeply worried, deeply disturbed. It’s not like he thought it would be. He’s like a kid after Christmas morning, or the kid in the candy store. He won. Now it’s over.
He’s done with this.
He looked ridiculous the other day aboard the aircraft carrier USS Gerald R. Ford wearing his presidential flight jacket and cap. Next time he should request the 3XL size. He looked like a stuffed potato. After all, he is a symbol of America.
For an adult man with the attention span of an infant, Trump appears to be ready for something else now. In his mind, he’s already done everything he’s promised. The main thing is that he won the election. He’s President. Now it’s “been there, done that” ...have the flight jacket. Mission accomplished.
I really don’t think he was ever in this for the long haul. He may not have realized or understood the difference between working with contractors and working with congress.
Building a hotel resort empire is one thing, building and maintaining America and the free world is quite another.
“Fools rush in where angels fear to tread, both of their futures so full of dread ...”
Trump rushed in, picked his team, signed executive orders like paying for dinner with a room number, leaving us all agape ...and the news media incredulous. In fact, he’s shot down and discredited the main stream news media and started his own presidential news service via Twitter. Perfect name for it ...tweet, chirp, cheep, peep ...chatter.
Now, the infighting and grab-assing purported in the White House between and among the chosen inner circle staff has already begun. I’d look for Kellyanne Conway and Steve Bannon to be the first to go. Maybe even before Trump. And certainly fired subsequently by President Pence.
Trumps recent accusations about Obama wire tapping his phones at Trump Tower are about as unsubstantiated as the Domocrats‘ accusations that the Russian government had a hand in influencing the outcome of the election. Both leave a lot to consider and speculate ..neither can be or will be proven.
It just all adds more fuel to the media fire and gives something for Trump to fret about at 2:00 AM ...when he should be thinking of more important things. Or getting some sleep.
And what about Malania, the First Lady? No offense to her, or to the overall Trump family situation, but personally, I’d like to see more of her. Not because she is great to look at, but for the comforting American tradition of the “First Family.” Somehow, even if it’s not true, knowing or pretending that all is well within the White House makes me feel that all is well with America and the world.
Oh, silly, naive me. I should know better, especially, after watching “House of Cards.”
But, seriously, there are traditions, and there is nothing wrong with breaking traditions or starting new ones, but Trump seems to be in a category all his own. And it’s an uncomfortable one. I didn’t vote for him, or for Hillary, but was more than willing to give him a chance. And still am. I respect the office of the presidency and consider myself a patriot.
But he’s starting to creep me out. He’s losing my trust and confidence. He’s not special, he may be substandard. And he may be losing his proffered and highly self-proclaimed resolve and focus. All the things we’ve let go over the last year ...his behavior, his demeanor ...his words, are starting to add up.
Actually, I hope I’m wrong about all this. I’d like to see it all work out, for us, America, for him ...for the world going forward. But as things do move forward, or not, in my estimation, I am losing confidence.
A doubting Thomas am I. Well, to get biblical, especially now around Easter time, which is my estimated deadline for Trump’s decline, even downfall ...or maybe to be joyous and hopeful at the same time regarding President Trump, perhaps a resurrection of his presidency is in good order.
It could happen.
