Spring has come to Perry City and to help facilitate spring cleaning within the community, large dumpsters will be available starting April 21st. Dumping of green waste, concrete, rocks, tires, appliances, or hazardous waste is not allowed. Violators will be cited if garbage does not fit or if un-allowed items are deposited in the dumpster. DO NOT leave items on the side of the dumpster. The City is wanting to help, but due to violations, they said they will discontinue this service in the future. Dumpsters will be taken away with the 2nd dump. Dumpsters will be placed at the following locations:
• City Hall (3005 S 1200 W)
• Mtn. View Park (2400 S 400 W)
• Dale Young Park (1200 W 2250 S)
Burn permits are available, but before you burn your spring trimmings, you must first obtain a burn permit. There is no cost. Permits can be obtained by going online thru Brigham City’s web page underneath the Dept. tab, then under Fire/EMS there is a link for open burning permits. Permits will be available on days with good air quality, and fires must be put out by dark. This is only good until May 30th.
Watch out, the “SHAKE OUT” is APRIL 20th. Perry’s Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) Program educates people about disaster preparedness for hazards that may impact their area and trains them in basic disaster response skills. One of the public services that Perry City CERT is coordinating this year is another “Shake Out” emergency simulation exercise. All residents, businesses, and schools in Perry are thus encouraged to participate in a simulated earthquake, which will take place at 10:15 AM on Thursday April 20th.
1. You can participate in three ways on this day:
2. Turn on your local radio or TV station for emergency news.
3. At 10:15 AM, “Drop, Cover, and Hold on” in your home or office, as instructed on “Shake Out” websites.
After 10:15 AM (or before you leave for work, but before 12 Noon), put your “green card” or other “colored card” in your front door or window (so that anyone in front of your house can see it) as we have done in recent years. These cards have been distributed as part of “Rapid Assessment Packets” in recent years. Block captains will contact each family or household and will report information (by 2:00 PM) to the emergency preparedness coordinator for the area. Area coordinators will contact each block captain and will report information (by 3:00 PM) to CERT leadership (at the Perry City offices).
For emergency purposes, Perry City is organized as follows:
• 10-15 families or households in your neighborhood are organized into a “block,” with a block captain.
• 10-15 blocks are organized into clustered areas with an emergency preparedness coordinator for each area.
• Perry City is divided up into about 10 areas.
“Green cards” or other “colored cards” (for this emergency simulation) have the following meanings:
• Green card – means everything is OK.
• Yellow card – means light injuries sustained (cuts/bruises, non-life threatening).
• Red card – means life threatening injuries sustained; send help.
• Black card – means loss of life
Rapid Assessment Packets can be obtained at the City Office through the month of April.
We have several other community activities happening in the next few weeks. Starting with the green waste will be open starting Saturday, April 1, 2017 and will remain open through October 28th. See the Perry City webpage for the Green Waste rules and conditions. The Green Waste will be supervised and will only be open weather permitting during the following times: Fridays: 3 PM—7 PM Saturdays: 10 AM—2 PM.
The secondary water is being turned in on April 10th. This is about 2 weeks early. This will give Pine View more time to fix breaks in the lines. Remember it is illegal to have cross-connections with culinary and secondary water.
The 6th annual Senior Ball is on April 28th at the Brigham community Center from 6 to 8 PM. Anyone who qualifies for a senior discount at Chuck-A-Rama is invited to come dance the night away. There will be dancing to the music of the BEHS live Jazz Band, refreshments, photo booth, and socializing with friends and the wonderful youth of our area.
Promontory School of Expeditionary Learning’s 5th Annual Spring Family Fundraiser May 5, 2017 at 5:00 PM. 5k and Fun Run, Family picnic, and Silent Auction! For more information visit us at: www.promontoryschool.org
Perry City is proud to invite all Perry City residents to participate in the 11th Annual Garage Sale. This will take place on May 20th. Perry has organized this to start at 8 am to at least 12 pm. They have printed maps showing where the sales will be. They will be provided at Maverick Convenience Store beginning on Friday morning (the 19th). To have your garage sale listed on the map, or for more info, contact Tom or Terry Peterson at 435-723-3987. They need to have your listing on or before May 15th to be on the map. You may still participate without being on the map. This has been very successful in the past years.
There are many items happening within the community in the next few months with the school coming to a close and many spring and summer activities start, we will update often.
