Janine Palmer (Silver Moon) grew up in Northern California and resides in Southern California today. After devastating county-wide wild fires and global economic collapse, Palmer and her family endured physical, economical and emotional losses, along with the loss of friendships. Barrick, Cisco FREE DIGITAL EDUCATION AT Great Basin College Surpasses 110 Registrations & Counting
Online Registration Still Accepted
Elko, NV — More than 110 people have enrolled to participate in online information technology skills development courses at Great Basin College, free of charge, as a result of an innovative mining, technology and education collaboration.
In April Barrick, Cisco and Great Basin College announced a partnership bringing digital career training opportunities to Barrick employees and their families, veterans of the U.S. Armed Forces, members of the Western Shoshone tribe and thousands of others in Barrick’s rural host communities in Northern Nevada including Elko, Eureka, Carlin, Battle Mountain, Winnemucca, and Owyhee.
“People outside of the mining industry still associate the field with the scuffed boots, sturdy pickaxes and dirty hard hats,” said Tim Buchanan, Director, Corporate Social Responsibility of Barrick USA. “Barrick’s $400,000 investment to bring free digital learning opportunities to our communities underscores the significance of our digital transformation. We hope many more people will take advantage of this opportunity to strengthen this vital part of the Nevada workforce.”
Registration is currently open for the Networking Academy which covers exploratory courses aimed at those who are curious about technology fields, foundational courses for those ready to acquire skills and certification and advanced networking and programming courses for those ready for advancement in a technology career.
The courses initially offered are non-credit courses for those interested in exploring career opportunities in technology or creating a technology-related business. CURATOR’S STATEMENT:
In honor of and collaboration with TEDx-Ogden, O1ARTS is pleased to announce X-hibition, opening May 17 at PLATFORMS, and running through the TEDxOgden Conference on June 16.
Eight LOCAL ARTISTS interpret both Ogden and the X in sculpture, painting, and installations. Here, the deeper symbolism of the X, speaks to the crossroad, the idea of the graphical device as a place, it’s where people meet; it is the intersection — the center of the universe of communing and community...it is here.. you hold in your heart.

Ogden has this interesting dynamic that intersects the industrial city the outdoor community. My upcoming installation will represent that intersection by combining tent forms and industrial chain link. Most tents just happen to have the X construction… so it should fit well and give a nice nod to TEDx.

My sculpture aims to incorporate the amazing artists we have in Ogden. It also represents the great outdoor industry that has been brought to Ogden. We are a diverse outdoor destination. This gorgeous place also has a rich history, which many artists here represent with their work.

This exhibit symbolizes Ogden breaking free from the negative stereotypes of its past while moving toward a brighter future. The structural X will be placed around town as a representation of the exploration of a new identity. You can follow this journey at #TEDxOgdenJourney.

My work here is made with paint and ice. My intention is to create a synthetic record of Ogden's many small tributaries and streams created during the run off season. I am putting color and contrast to the interesting and natural movements of water that may at times go unnoticed in our natural world.
My work often involves hardware, texture and grit, much like this town and its history. Juxtaposing the historic auspiciousness of the golden spike against the oxidized patina of a well-worn iron spike seems apt for Ogden. This X marks our spot.
This photographic light box display has iconic ogden scenery. The inspiration is the energy and light growing in Ogden.
This piece was inspired by many of the great things Ogden has to offer- the beautiful architecture, events that go on throughout the year, and all the great people that visit and live here and make up this great town. I wanted to showcase some of those elements, and invite YOU to add your own mark in the framed areas using the dry erase markers. I have also incorporated Ted X into the piece as one of the design elements in the piece.

Ogden is one Utah's gems, with deep history and natural beauty. The Ogden River, the canyon's steep walls, Historic Twenty-fifth Street, and Ben Lomond Peak are some of the city's greatest landmarks. Each of them are painted with hand-carved stamped X's, welcoming Ogden's first TEDx event.
WSU Affiliation: graduated from WSU Magna Cum Laude with a BFA in Art/Two Dimensional in Fall 2015.
