OGDEN, UT (July 26, 2017)– Good Company Theatre is proud to present the vibrant, award-winning musical In The Heights by Broadway phenom Lin-Manuel Miranda and Tony Award winner Quiara Alegria Hudes.
Change pulses through Washington Heights – a Latino neighborhood in New York City – as the summer heat swelters. Usnavi watches over his shop as people from the block go on with their lives. Daniela and Vanessa work the salon, Nina is on break from her studies at Stanford, and Abuela Claudia offers encouragement to passerby from her stoop. When someone buys a $96,000 lotto ticket from the bodega, everyone buzzes with dreams of a better future. Told through exuberant Latin and Hip-Hop infused songs, and energetic dance numbers, In The Heights is a universal story of community and hope.
“In The Heights is the musical we need this year,” says Good Company Theatre Founder and Co-Director Alicia Washington. “Infectious music tells a lively, poignant story about immigrants in search of their own version of the American Dream.”
“Ogden Amphitheater is the ideal location to present In The Heights,” enthuses Good Company Theatre co-director Camille Washington. “This area is home to the second highest Hispanic population in the state, and our production features local actors from this community. Rarely does theatre and life intermingle in such a meaningful way.”
Austin Archer serves as Director and Choreographer. Ginger Bess Simons serves as Musical Director. The show features performances by Gray Aydelot (Benny), Jacob Barnes (Usnavi), Liz Corona (Daniela), Pedro Flores (Sonny), Tamara Howell (Abuela Claudia), Aaliyah Jenks (Vanessa), and Becca Lichfield (Nina), among others. In The Heights Runs August 11-21, Thursdays-Saturdays and Mondays at 8 pm at Ogden Amphitheater. Doors open at 7:30 pm. This show features loud music, and some mild adult situations and language. First, runners experience the scenic views along Deer Creek Dam and Reservoir as they ride the historic Heber Valley Railroad to the start line. Then they put their speed to the test as they challenge the mighty Heber Creeper in a race back to the platform.

Ogden Native Earns Military Excellence Award at Recruit Training Command

(GREAT LAKES ) - Seaman Recruit Rilee Rhees, a Ogden, Utah native and graduate of Recruit Training Command, Division 222, earned the Military Excellence Award as top Sailor on July 21.
The Navy Club of the United States Military Excellence Award is the top award presented to the No. 1 recruit of their graduating training group. The MEA is awarded to the recruit that best exemplifies the qualities of enthusiasm, devotion to duty, military bearing and teamwork. The award placed her at the pinnacle of today’s newest Sailors; she was awarded a flag letter of commendation for her achievements.
“I did not volunteer to become the Recruit Chief Petty Officer, but I am thankful for the selection of being the leader for my division,” said Rhees. “It gave me great pride from the first day to represent my division and Recruit Division Commanders to the best of my ability. I know my success as an RCPO was not solely because of my own abilities, but in the camaraderie, motivation, and dedication of the rest of my division that ventured through this eight-week journey with me. My selection as the MEA would have not been accomplishable without the mentorship, training, and commitment my RDCs invested in my daily training,” said Rhees.
Rhees joined the Navy for the honor, pride, adventure, and love for her country.
“Life is like a chapter book, everybody has a story,” said Rhees. “I’m trying to make the most noble and exploratory narrative possible to move and inspire others. I decided to accomplish this by joining the Navy and having it be the next chapter in my story/life.”
Prior to enlisting, she graduated from Utah Valley University earning a Bachelor’s degree in Fire Science. Additionally, she worked as a wildland firefighter as a Helitack (helicopter-delivered fire resources) crewmember conducting initial attack suppression of wildfires throughout the country.
Rhees mentioned one of the most memorable moments in boot camp was listening to the song “I’m proud to be an American” by Lee Greenwood and having her Navy ball cap placed on her head by her RDCs signifying the successful completion of boot camp.
Boot camp is approximately eight weeks and all enlistees into the U.S. Navy begin their careers at the command. Training includes physical fitness, seamanship, firearms, firefighting and shipboard damage control along with lessons in Navy heritage and core values, teamwork and discipline. About 30,000 to 40,000 recruits graduate annually from RTC and begin their Navy careers.
After graduation, Rhees will attend a 19-week Hospital Corpsman “A” School in Fort Sam Houston in San Antonio, Texas where she will learn basic principles and techniques of patient care and first-aid procedures. She selected the rate of Hospital Corpsman because of her experience in emergency medicine and the desire to go with the Marines to experience the adrenaline in the field.
