Who: The film's writer, producers, and directors are all native Utahans. Additionally, the documentary was filmed by a Utah crew. The film is also narrated by Utah's Amanda Dickson.
The idea for the movie began almost four decades ago, when William Nixon— writer, co-producer, and co-director—was working for Senator Hatch with the exclusive responsibility of reuniting Iranian-American families in Utah who had been separated after the 1979 Iranian revolution.
Why: True Iran: The Global Jihad details in an engaging and compelling way one of the most important foreign and defense policy issues of our time—Iran, the largest state sponsor of terrorism in the world—and focused on its efforts to militarize, achieve nuclear weapons, and even affect the illegal narcotics trade in the United States, including Utah. The film includes interviews with some of the top experts in international relations and military affairs, including U.S. Senator Bob Corker, the Chairman of the U.S. Senate Committee on Foreign Relations; Mohsen Sazegara, a one-time ally of Ayatollah Khomeini and one of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard who now lives in exile in the United States; and more.
The film was previously viewed at an event hosted by Senator Orrin Hatch in the United States Capitol Visitor Center, where it was well received by those in attendance.
