***PRESS RELEASE***

UTAH REPUBLICAN PARTY RESPONSE TO

LEGISLATURE/CMV COMPROMISE

The Utah Republican Party believes all political parties have a constitutional right to select their nominees free from government interference. Given the political realities surrounding the Count My Vote initiative, we appreciate the legislature
finding a solution that preserves our caucus/convention system. This system has served Utah well and gives an average citizen a realistic chance of being elected to public office without having to expend great sums of money.

We measure the actions of our Republican elected officials on the following basis:

1) Are the actions consistent with our platform and principles?
2) Are they made in good faith?
3) Are they reasonable given the circumstances?
4) Are they in best interest of the state as a whole?

Chairman James Evans’ position on this compromise is, “While we may not fully agree on the details of the compromise, we are supportive of our Republican legislators because we believe they are acting in good faith, making the best of a difficult situation, and doing what they believe is in the best interest of Utah.”
