Governor’s Office statement on temporary transfer of power to Lt. Gov. Spencer J. Cox

 

SALT LAKE CITY (Jan. 26, 2018) – Gov. Gary R. Herbert’s deputy chief of staff Paul Edwards has issued the following statement regarding Gov. Herbert’s scheduled kidney stone removal surgery this afternoon:

 

This afternoon at 5:24 p.m., prior to undergoing surgery at LDS Hospital to remove kidney stones, Gov. Gary R. Herbert transmitted the attached declaration to the Utah Supreme Court indicating his temporary inability to discharge the powers and duties of the office of governor. As such, Lieutenant Governor Spencer J. Cox formally holds the powers and duties of the governor until such time as Gov. Herbert transmits another written declaration to the Supreme Court indicating that his temporary disability has ended.

Governor’s Office statement on Gov. Herbert’s surgery

 

SALT LAKE CITY (Jan. 26, 2018) – Gov. Gary R. Herbert’s deputy chief of staff Paul Edwards has issued the following statement after Gov. Herbert’s kidney stone removal surgery:

 

This evening, following his surgery, Gov. Gary R. Herbert transmitted the attached declaration to the Utah Supreme Court indicating that his temporary inability to discharge the powers and duties of the Office of Governor has ended. Accordingly, he has resumed the powers and duties of the Office of Governor. By all accounts, the surgery was successful and Gov. Herbert will return to the Governor’s Mansion later this evening. According to his attending physicians, the prognosis is for a full and uneventful recovery.
