Dear KidsOutAndAbout.com readers:

USA Gymnastics World in Woods Cross, Utah is a gymnastics facility committed to engaging children in the active sport of gymnastics, tumbling, cheer, and parkour. At USAGW, their primary focus is helping kids grow into happy, healthy, and responsible adults. They offer activities for children starting at ages 15 months up through 15 years old.

Gymnastics
At USA Gymnastics World, gymnastics classes begin with Parent and Tot classes for children 15 months to 2 years old. Classes are 45 minutes long and involve music, activities, bonding with your child, and some basic gross motor movements to help your child discover the world around them. Their Tiny Tot classes are for children 3-5 years old to begin independent activity with classes of no more than 6 children. These classes use the gymnastics equipment and are lead by some of the best instructors in the area. After the age of 6 years old, gymnastics classes for boys and girls are taught at beginner, intermediate, and advanced levels working toward learning new skills, interacting with classmates, and uncovering their abilities through the sport of gymnastics.

Tumbling and Cheer
Tumbling and Cheer Prep classes are also offered through USAGW for kids to work with well-qualified instructors in learning floor tumbling skills, stunting, and building strength. These classes are offered for children of all abilities, ages 6 and up. Whether your child just wants to learn cartwheels and handstands, or if they are trying out for cheer and want to improve their back handsprings and standing tucks, USAGW’s Tumbling and Cheer Prep covers it all.

Parkour
One of the most explosive and popular programs currently at USA Gymnastics World is their astounding Parkour Program. Parkour is a co-ed class that trains movement and body control over various obstacles and surfaces to get from one point to the next in the most efficient way possible. Their Parkour Program gets kids up and moving, from jumping over blocks, swinging from bars, and introducing flips into foam pits with the instruction from remarkable coaches. This program has been expanding since it opened and spots are limited.

If enrolling in classes right now isn’t in your schedule, USA Gymnastics World offers Summer Camps for your child to learn basic gymnastics, parkour, tumbling and games all in one week. Their summer camps are in the mornings from 9 am-12:30 pm and are guaranteed to strike your child’s interest. Between learning new skills, fun games and activities, supervised free play, and crafts, your child will be loving the week they spend at USA Gymnastic World in Woods Cross, UT.

If you are interested in enrolling in classes or inquiring about summer camps or birthday parties, you can visit usagw.co, call them at 801-298-2219 during business hours, or stop by the gym in Woods Cross.

Format Changes Coming To 2018 Monster Energy Supercross Championship Races at Rice-Eccles Stadium

The Most Competitive Off-Road Motorcycle Racing Championship in the World Coming to the Bee Hive State on April 28th

In Partnership With Utah Sports Commission

(Salt Lake City, UT) – Monster Energy AMA Supercross, an FIM World Championship, returns to bring the world’s premier off-road motorcycle racing championship series back to Salt Lake City on Saturday, April 28th – marking the 16th round (and final race before wrapping up the season in Las Vegas) of the most exciting racing season of all-time as a new era of competition will change the battleground forever with several new format changes to the most competitive and highest-profile motorcycle racing championship in the world that has entertained millions of fans for 43 years!

For the first time in over two decades, the 2018 season will debut an all-new points system to evenly allocate points over all 22 finishing positions. While the gap between 1st, 2nd and 3rd has not changed, the new points system will ensure that the race to the championship will be much more competitive throughout the season as the reward is greater for a better finish.

Also the elimination of semi races in qualifying for the Main Event will add further pressure to qualify as the world’s most elite endurance athletes will have just two chances to ensure a spot in the Main Event through one of two heat races or a last chance qualifier (LCQ). This year, the Top 9 in each heat will qualify directly into the Main Event while positions 10-20 will have one last chance to make it through the LCQ. Previously, only five positions would transfer to the Main Event from the heat races and all others would be transferred to a semi race. Eliminating the semi races will make for longer heat races and last chance qualifiers, allowing for more intense battles on the track for the fans.

Without a past champion potentially on the gate in 2018, the international field is wide open for the world’s most elite athletes to become a first-time Monster Energy Supercross Champion. Along with all the new format changes, every track in 2018 will have a distinct personality that tells the story of each city’s Supercross history.

SALT LAKE CITY — Today Sutherland Institute announced an upcoming event, “Innovations for Students with Special Needs.” The panel, to be held Wednesday evening, March 28, is the final of four in a series hosted by Sutherland Institute addressing a range of education topics. As seating is limited, preregistration is encouraged.

Panelists (details found below) will include the president of Gigi’s Playhouse (a Down syndrome achievement center), a therapeutic recreational specialist at the National Ability Center, the current president of the Utah Autism Academy, a tutor at the Dyslexia Center of Utah, and the director of the Governor’s Committee on Employment of People with Disabilities & Business Relations. These individuals are willing to share personal stories, successes and challenges in working with students who have special education needs. Members of the public are encouraged to share this event on Facebook

An event program can be downloaded here.

From Sutherland Education Policy Director Christine Cooke (panel moderator):
“The community and state-based programs highlighted in this panel have the potential to significantly improve education for students with special needs at a time when we’re realizing that we just aren’t doing enough for these kids yet,” Cooke said. “We need to make as many educational options available to these students as we can – both public and private options.

“If just one parent or policymaker finds a solution or comes up with an idea after attending this panel, it’s a win.”

PANELISTS:

  • Brittanie Flint is the founder and president of GiGi’s Playhouse Layton, a Down syndrome achievement center. An entrepreneur from an early age, she also owns Flippers Gymnastics and Cheer and Flippers Tumble Bug Preschool, and she is an IEP advocate. She is a single mom of five children – her fourth child is a darling little boy, Linkon, who happens to have Down syndrome. She works closely with schools and families with children who have special needs from all over the Western United States as their advocate through IEP meetings. Her mission is to provide all families and children with special needs all the opportunities they need and deserve.
  • Leah Lobato is the director of the Governor’s Committee on Employment of People with Disabilities and Business Relations with the Utah State Office of Rehabilitation. She promotes the employment and retention of individuals with disabilities in competitive employment by promoting public and private partnerships and efforts. She has a BS from the University of Utah and is a certified public manager. She is on the board of Utah’s Chapter of Job Placement and Development and is a member of the National Rehabilitation Association, Utah Rehabilitation Association, Utah Diversity Connections and the Utah Business Leadership Network.
  • Liz Longhurst is a licensed therapeutic recreation specialist (TRS) who brings her bachelor’s in therapeutic recreation and a master’s in adaptive physical education to the National Ability Center in Park City, as well as teaching certificates in state and nationally accredited programs. Liz worked as a physical education teacher in neurotypical and neuro-diverse classes for pre-K through 12th grade. Liz supports individuals with different abilities, ages 16 and up, as they prepare to lead a life of independence, all with a wide range of skills and goals. She manages and cultivates the development of a team to lead the Camps and Community Programs that run year-round at the National Ability Center.
  • Tricia Nelson is the president and executive director of Utah Autism Academy (a day-treatment program for individuals with ASD) and the mother of four children, including Riley (a 16-year-old young man on the severe end of the autism spectrum). Tricia finds joy in the successful inclusion in the community of ALL individuals with ASD and the reception of the community to the value that they bring.
  • Christine S. Hansen is a reading tutor at the Dyslexia Center of Utah. She holds a BA from Brigham Young University. Having spent time teaching in various classrooms from the LDS Missionary Training Center to preschools, and volunteering with and working in the public school system, she was thrilled to find the Dyslexia Center of Utah in 2015. Finally understanding why certain students didn’t thrive even when intelligence, opportunity and supportive adults were available and present was freeing as an educator. Armed with new skills, tools and training, she loves helping children use all their senses to discover the world of words and regain confidence in their abilities and intelligence. Christine and her husband have raised their five children in Cedar Hills, Utah, and are now relishing their new role as grandparents.
