Ms. Pollock, an elementary teacher at Lincoln Elementary School in Ogden, has a unique idea for inspiring her students to connect everyday exercise to real world impact. In her own words:
“This project will help my students to develop an attitude of caring as they physically exercise to provide food for starving children all over the world. The popular UNICEF powerbands purchased will track my students movement, and as they achieve their goals, they will unlock points that become digital currency for positive impact. They will use their points to help to purchase food for children around the world who are starving. Along with them physically working to help others, there are lessons that teach important character traits that will help my students become leaders. I know that by working together and focusing on character my students will be come a more unified community, and that will help them to not only be successful at school, but in all aspects of their lives.”
She is asking the public to donate to her project on DonorsChoose.org so that her students are able to become a generation of active global citizens.
Ms. Pollock is among over 7,000 teachers from Utah public schools who have had projects funded on DonorsChoose.org. Utah teachers have raised $13 million from nearly 40,000 donors to fund over 19,000 classroom project requests. These projects have inspired our community of donors to reach across state borders; 73% of the donations to Utah projects have come from outside of the state.
