Nominees announced for two Court of Appeals vacancies
SALT LAKE CITY – The Appellate Judicial Nominating Commission has selected nominees for two vacancies on the Utah Court of Appeals. These vacancies result from the retirement of Judge James Davis, effective Nov. 16, 2015 and the confirmation of Judge John Pearce to the Utah Supreme Court, effective Dec. 16, 2015.
The nominees are: David Barlow, partner, Sidley Austin LLP; Samuel Chiara, judge, Eighth District Court; Diana Hagen, first assistant United States attorney, U.S. Attorney’s Office; Linda Jones, partner, Zimmerman Jones Booher LLC; David Mortensen, judge, Fourth District Court; Jill Pohlman, associate/partner, Stoel Rives LLP; Jeannette Swent, assistant United States attorney, U.S. Attorney’s Office.
Written comments can be submitted to the Appellate Judicial Nominating Commission Chair Kerry Gibson at judicialvacancies@utah.gov or Commission on Criminal and Juvenile Justice, P.O. Box 142330, Salt Lake City, UT 84114-2330. The deadline for written comments is noon April 8, 2016. The Nominating Commission may request further information or conduct an investigation of the nominees after reviewing public comments. After the public comment period, the names will be sent to Gov. Gary R. Herbert, who will have 30 days to make an appointment. Gov. Herbert’s appointee is subject to confirmation by the Utah Senate.
