Governor appoints judge to 4th District Juvenile Court
SALT LAKE CITY (July 27, 2016) – Gov. Gary R. Herbert has appointed Douglas Nielsen as a judge on the 4th District Juvenile Court.
“Judge Nielsen has a sincere desire to serve the people of the State of Utah,” Gov. Herbert said. “His intelligence, thoughtfulness and familiarity with the law will serve him well as he works to fulfill the demands of this new position.”
Nielsen currently serves as a judge for the Lehi City Justice Court and the Highland/Alpine Justice Court. Prior to his service in Utah County, he spent three years (2010-2013) with the Petro & Nielsen Law Office in Provo, Utah. Nielsen received a Bachelor of Science in business management from Utah State University and a Juris Doctorate from Oklahoma City University.
“I believe the greatest service in the legal profession is to the youth and families of our community,” Nielsen said. “I am honored that Governor Herbert and others have given me this unique opportunity to serve.”
Subject to confirmation by the Utah Senate, Nielsen will fill a position created by the Utah State Legislature during the 2016 general session.

UTAH SENATE REQUESTS PUBLIC COMMENT ON FOURTH DISTRICT JUVENILE COURT NOMINEE
SALT LAKE CITY - The Utah Senate Judicial Confirmation Committee is seeking public comment on Douglas Nielsen, who was appointed to fill a vacancy on the Fourth District Juvenile Court.
Those who desire to comment should contact Jerry Howe at the Office of Legislative Research and General Counsel, Utah State Capitol Campus, House Building, Suite W210, PO Box 145210, Salt Lake City, Utah 84114-5210, by 5 p.m. on Wednesday, August 10, 2016. All statements should include the respondent’s name, telephone number, and mailing address.
The Senate Judicial Confirmation Committee plans to hold a public hearing, then issue a recommendation to the full senate. If confirmed by the senate, Mr. Nielsen will fill the new position created by the legislature during session.
The Fourth District Court includes Utah, Juab and Millard Counties.
