Pilot Program Pays to Leave Water in Colorado River
Studies Benefit of Drought Contingency Planning
Salt Lake City (Oct. 6, 2016) The Utah Division of Water Resources, in partnership with the Upper Colorado River Commission, is continuing a demand management pilot program that is intended to study the effectiveness of water conservation measures on Lake Powell elevations. Participating water users have foregone diverting about 3 billion gallons of water already as a result of the program.
The UCRC is issuing a Request for Proposals (RFP) to invite users of the Upper Basin States Colorado River System (Colorado, New Mexico, Utah and Wyoming) to submit proposals for pilot program water conservation projects (the RFP, which includes more detailed information, and the application form are attached). The Funding Partners and other stakeholders have committed approximately $1.8 million towards one-year projects in the Upper Colorado River Basin for 2017 that demonstrate the effectiveness of temporary, compensated, and voluntary water savings actions.
Proposals must be received by Nov. 30, 2016. Those interested should contact Robert King, Utah Division of Water Resources Interstate Streams Engineer: RobertKing@utah.gov, 801-538-7259.
"We hope to see a variety of proposals come in from Utah water users. We are still studying the benefits of the program and what kind of difference it can make," King said.

SALT LAKE CITY, UTAH, USA, October 6, 2016 /EINPresswire.com/ -- Intermountain Healthcare and Prisma Biotech have announced a collaboration to allow Prisma Biotech to distribute a test in Taiwan that facilitates personalized medicine. This new collaboration follows a similar agreement between Intermountain Precision Genomics and Asia Genomics.
Prisma Biotech, an in-vitro diagnostic supplier company based in Taiwan, now contracts with Intermountain Precision Genomics to offer ICG100™ testing through its wholly owned subsidiary ReadGene Inc. Intermountain Precision Genomics ICG100™ test is next-generation sequencing that identifies mutations within a person’s cancer to identify specific DNA targets for personalized drug treatments. Currently approved for late stage cancer patients who have failed a traditional treatment method, the ICG100™ test offers new hope where traditional treatments fall short.
According to Kevin Hung-Pin Tseng, President and CEO of Prisma Biotech, “Intermountain Healthcare has been one of the early adaptors of precision cancer genomics. We are very excited to be a partner of Intermountain Precision Genomics to introduce the comprehensive, end-to-end service to Taiwan, including testing, the molecular tumor board, matching drugs, and monitoring the outcome. This will assist oncologists in Taiwan to implement precision genomics in treatment of cancer patients.”
“We are pleased to partner with Prisma Biotech to help extend life and improve quality of life for late-stage cancer patients across East Asia,” said Jason Gillman, Director of Intermountain Precision Genomics. “Targeted therapies are the most effective treatment for late-stage cancer patients and we look forward to this partnership positively impacting the way patients receive care around the world.”
Intermountain Precision Genomics is a service of Intermountain Healthcare, which offers genetic sequencing of solid tumors. This in-depth sequencing identifies individual mutations within a person’s cancer cells to identify specific DNA targets for personalized drugs. Utah Symphony to play Rachmaninoff’s Piano Concerto No. 3 in Ogden
Ogden, Utah — Crowds will be on their feet for Russian pianist Andrey Gugnin and Maestro Juraj Valcuha as they and the Utah Symphony perform Rachmaninoff’s Piano Concerto No. 3 on Oct. 20 at the Val A. Browning Center.
Rachmaninoff’s Piano Concerto No. 3 is recognized by many as one of the most difficult pieces in classical piano repertoire. Many pianists call Rachmaninoff’s Piano Concerto No. 3 Rocky III for its complexity and the agility needed to perform it.
In addition to Piano Concerto No. 3, the Utah Symphony will also be playing Prokofiev’s Symphony No. 3. Composed during Soviet reign, Prokofiev’s Symphony No. 3 is more emotional than his contemporaries while still being complex and intense.
Gugnin will be making his Utah Symphony debut. Gugnin studied at the Moscow Conservatory and has won some of the world’s most prestigious piano competition awards. Some of his awards include the Gold Medal and Audience Award in the 16th Gina Bachauer International Piano Competition in Salt Lake City (2014), 2nd Prize in the Beethoven International Piano Competition (2013) and 1st Prize in the International piano competition “Cittâ di Cantù” (2009).
Maestro Valcuha will also be making his debut with the Utah Symphony. Up to this point, Valcuha has been the principal conductor at Orchestra Sinfonica Nazionale della Rai. Previously, Valcuha was a guest conductor for the Orchestre National de France, Amsterdam Concertgebouw Orchestra, National Symphony Orchestra and New York Philharmonic. He studied in St. Petersburg and Paris.
Mrs. Paul T. Kunz and the Weber County R.A.M.P. are sponsoring this concert. This is the second performance in the Ogden Symphony Ballet Association’s Masterworks series. Upcoming Masterworks performances will feature Brahms, Tchaikovsky and Ravel.
Tickets for Rachmaninoff’s Piano Concerto No. 3 range from $10 — $36 and are available online at www.symphonyballet.org, over the phone at (801) 399-9214 or at the OSBA office at 638 26th Street in Ogden.
