Utah’s Private Sector Job Growth Ranks No. 1 in the Nation
SALT LAKE CITY (Mar. 24, 2017) — On the heels of the newly released February 2017 job numbers for the state of Utah, new U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) data indicates that Utah ranks No. 1 for private job growth in the U.S. at 3.5 percent. Utah also ranks No. 2 for total job growth at 3.3 percent. For unemployment, Utah ranked seventh at 3.1 percent.
“Because of the hard work Utahns put in every day, we are leading the nation in both private sector job growth and overall job growth,” said Gov. Gary R. Herbert. “These accolades are a result of our commitment to fundamental, conservative principles that cultivate an environment where business can succeed.”
“Utah’s labor market is one of the best performing in the nation. Favorable conditions will continue to attract people into our workforce, allowing businesses to expand their operations,” said Carrie Mayne, chief economist for the Department of Workforce Services. “Some parts of our state are not yet benefitting as much from the favorable economic momentum, but with the proper support from state and local leaders, opportunities will spread throughout Utah.”
BLS data shows Utah rankings as follows:
PRIVATE SECTOR JOB GROWTH
(1) Utah – 3.5 percent
(2) Nevada – 3.4 percent
(2) Idaho – 3.4 percent
(4) Florida – 3.2 percent
TOTAL JOB GROWTH
(1) Idaho – 3.4 percent
(2) Utah – 3.3 percent
(3) Nevada – 3.1 percent
