Utah Board of Education Elects New Chair

Tami Pyfer, of Logan, a special education teacher at Utah State University, is the new chairwoman of the Utah Board of Education. The USU Teacher wants her main goal to be communication. She believes that the Board members need to take more of a leadership role at the Capitol and in their local school districts.

Ms. Pyfer has pledged to continue working on updating and revising policies for licensing educators, looking at the structure of board committees and to take more input from board members.

Initiative is Drawing-out Opposition

Several Leaders in Utah are opposed to the “Count my Vote” initiative which would essentially do away with Utah’s long-standing caucus system.

The hustle and bustle of the holiday season is quickly approaching. The kids are starting to beg for toys, holiday to-do lists are growing by the hour and a few neighbors are turning on their Christmas lights already.                     The motto IN GOD WE TRUST was placed on United States coins largely because of the increased religious sentiment existing during the dark days of the Civil War.  At that time, Secretary of the Treasury Salmon P. Chase, received many appeals from “The People” from throughout the country, requesting that the United States recognize Deity on United States coins. It appears from Treasury Department records, that the first such appeal was a letter dated November 13, 1861.

Almost any intervention can help someone who is suicidal, but people have to know what to watch out for.

The Suicide Prevention Resource Center finds there are ways to ease the risk of suicide, including basics such as taking someone to see a professional and restricting access to any highly lethal means of suicide.

The Utah Farm Bureau Federation is a voluntary membership organization dedicated to increasing the net value of agriculture and making the quality of life better for all Utahns.  The Bureau part of the name came about because the first farm bureau was formed as a “bureau” of the Broome County, New York, Chamber of Commerce.  The Federation part of the name shows that the organization gets its direction from the members who then select representatives to carry their decisions and messages to the State level.  The Utah Farm Bureau Federation has been in existence since 1916.
