A Very Successful Season for the Swim Team so far

Plain City—Fremont High’s swim team is well underway in their 2014-2015 season and have had some pretty impressive finishes. At the region relays held on November 11, the boys’ team took first place and the girls’ team took third. They’ve also had plenty of individual swimmers from the team finish in the top three in different events. Needless to say, it’s been a great season so far for both the team and Timothy Shupe, who’s been coaching for Fremont since 2006, and serving as head coach since 2009.

Ready to Face the Competition

Pleasant View—Coach Mark Larsen is excited to see Weber High boys’ basketball team compete this season. He is in his fifth year as the head coach and says that even though the team was young last year, this year everyone is coming back stronger and more skilled. “I love the competition that basketball brings. I also enjoy the fact that it is such a fast paced game. You don't have much time to dwell on anything, just focus on playing the next play,” he said through an e-mail.

New School Ready to Help Students Succeed

Harrisville—GreenWood Charter School is planning on opening in the Fall of 2015 in Harrisville. The school has open enrollment going from January 1 to February 15 for grades kindergarten to 6th, with a 530 student capacity. The school will serve students from all backgrounds, including special needs students, gifted students, and limited English-proficient students. According to the school’s website, GreenWood’s mission is “to provide a quality holistic education to all students by providing opportunities for them to be active, knowledgeable, creative, and conscientious individuals.

Second Parent Member of Utah SAGE Test Review Committee Speaks Out

In 2013 the Utah Legislature mandated parental review of SAGE test questions and established what is now called the SAGE Parent Review Committee. It was a response to concerns that the computer adaptive tests could include biases or agendas that are objectionable to Utah family values.
