SALT LAKE CITY — Your fishing line suddenly gives a distinct tug. “Did I snag it on something while reeling it in?” you ask yourself. But the line jerks again, and that can only mean one thing: There is a fish on your line!  

In general, June is an excellent time to go fishing in Utah.

Americans recently woke up to the news that China is threatening to cut off supplies of “rare earth” metals to the United States. It’s a troubling situation.

American, Mexican and Canadian lawmakers will soon have an opportunity to vote on a massive trade deal that replaces the quarter-century-old North American Free Trade Agreement.

If those lawmakers ratify the new United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA), it'll create good jobs in all three countries. Workers in industries as disparate as agriculture, auto manufacturing, software, and television would earn higher wages. And consumers would benefit from better, more affordable products.

The Trump administration just put forward a proposal to reduce out-of-pocket drug costs for Medicare beneficiaries -- and thus boost access to life-saving and life-enhancing medicines. This proposal deserves support from Democrats and Republicans alike.

The proposal impacts Medicare's prescription drug benefit, known as Part D. Though subsidized and regulated by the federal government, beneficiaries purchase Part D drug plans from competing private insurers.
