4 tips for staying safe in bear country

SALT LAKE CITY — Utah is bear country and they are amazing animals. But most of us probably wouldn’t feel comfortable coming face to face with one in our campsite. If you follow a few simple steps, you can decrease the chances of that happening and can help keep you and the bears safe.

Thoughts for the day

Eight o’clock is a little late for me, I usually go 6-7ish with dinner.  Then there’s that ‘dinner‘ vs. ‘supper‘ thing.  They mean the same, but depending on cultural differences dinner is typically taken earlier between 2pm and 5pm and supper later between 7pm and 11pm.  Either way, it doesn’t matter.  Semantics.  It depends on your biologic clock and your lifestyle ...and when you’re hungry.

Up and down the East Coast, state lawmakers are fighting the Trump administration's efforts to allow natural gas and oil development in the Atlantic. These politicians recently adopted a novel tactic -- they're blocking construction of onshore pipelines, terminals, and other energy infrastructure that would be needed to process offshore natural gas and oil. 

As Hurricanes Florence and Michael devastated the Gulf Coast and the Carolinas this past hurricane season, residents braced themselves for fuel shortages and high prices at the pump. 

Much to their relief, fuel supplies remained plentiful and prices held stable -- all thanks to the energy industry's years-long effort to revamp its hurricane preparedness systems. Thanks to lots of advanced planning, American energy companies were able to help consumers weather the storms.
