Red Cross calls for winter heroes to host blood drives and save lives

Looming shortfall of blood drives could impair patient care

SALT LAKE CITY (Oct. 8, 2018) — Every two seconds someone in the U.S. needs blood. To help meet the constant demand for lifesaving blood donations and prevent blood shortages this winter, the American Red Cross is urging individuals and organizations to be winter heroes by hosting a blood drive.

The 5th Annual Utah Solutions Summit: Instead will be held at the Vivint Smart Home Arena in Salt Lake City, Utah. This dynamic, multi-dimensional event will engage Utahns of all ages and backgrounds in compelling and empowering ways. The purpose of the 2018 Summit is to foster a greater sense of connections and collaboration among our local and national community to create better and more effective options at all levels so those impacted by the opioids crisis can choose connection instead of addiction. 

Being a veterinarian, I had been called to examine a ten-year-old Irish Wolfhound named Belker. The dog's owners, Ron, Lisa, and their little boy Shane, were all very attached to Belker, and they were hoping for a miracle. I examined Belker and found he was dying of cancer. 

We recently published a photo of Eden native Lance Cpl. Paige Tallon, a heavy equipment operator with Combat Logistics Battalion 31, aboard the USS Wasp during a regularly scheduled patrol of the Indo-Pacific with the 31st MEU. Tallon is a 2017 graduate of Weber High School.

In addition to being observant, what’s the best thing you can do to fight poaching in Utah?

Get a license plate number for the vehicle the suspect is driving, says Trevor Doman, a Division of Wildlife Resources conservation officer in northern Utah.

“That’s the critical thing we need,” Doman says. “Having a license plate number will lead us to the individual so we can interview the person and start investigating.”

No, it is not. Mortgage disability insurance is a gimmick, and I would never recommend it to anyone.
