Recently, the world learned yet again that inadequate investment in infrastructure—roads, bridges, tunnels, and railways—can have tragic consequences.

This time, those consequences befell the people of Genoa, Italy, where the collapse of a 51-year-old bridge killed 43 people. Area residents had long expressed concern about the bridge's structural integrity. For years, blocks of concrete had been falling from the span onto their cars. Yet only the bare minimum of maintenance appears to have been performed.

Birth tourism, presently running rampart in the United States, is where foreigners intentionally coordinate their delivery dates with tourism ensuring that the birth happens while in this country.  They remain the weeks necessary for the new birth certificate to be used to generate a passport for their newborn.  Maternal centers, some sleazy others high end, created to accommodate the wait, run lucrative businesses (perhaps $50,000 per birth) encouraging “clients” from China, Russia, Turkey, Taiwan and Mexico primarily.  Their “tour” ends with their child having citizenship and a passport w

Elk festival happens Dec. 8

Hyrum -- Another chance to ride a horse-drawn sleigh or wagon through the middle of hundreds of wild elk is almost here.

To celebrate the start of another elk-viewing season, staff at the Hardware Ranch Wildlife Management Area will hold the ranch’s annual Elk Festival on Dec. 8. Activities run from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

America: The Greatest Show on Earth

If our planet is being watched, monitored, by advanced civilizations in a galaxy far, far away, they are probably perplexed at what they are seeing.  It’s a stretch to think that Earth may be the greatest show in the universe, but we are assuredly well ensconced in the conversation.  

I’ll get to the American show in a minute, but let’s take a look at the big picture first. 

After more than a year of negotiations, the United States recently struck a new trade deal with Canada and Mexico. The deal was well worth the wait.

The pact, the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA), is a public health victory for all three countries. Lawmakers would be wise to finalize the deal immediately.
