Dear Dave,

I started looking at life insurance policies after my wife and I had our daughter. During the screening process, I found out I had testicular cancer. I went through treatments, and the doctors have officially declared me to be in remission. Still, I can’t find a life insurance company that will work with me. I have a small policy through my employer, that is equal to double my salary. Do you have any suggestions for finding additional coverage?

Qualifying to hunt most game bird species in Utah is simple: buy a combination or small game license, and head afield.

Four species, though—tundra swan, sharp-tailed grouse, greater sage grouse and sandhill crane—also require a special permit. If you’d like to hunt any of those birds this fall, you must apply soon. Also, please be aware of two changes:

My husband and I finally have our full emergency fund in place. Like you recommend, we’ve kept it in a money market account with check writing privileges for easy accessibility. Recently, we heard about short-term bond funds with a higher interest rate than our current money market account. Our money would be available for withdrawal if needed, and we would only lose the interest. Is it okay to move half of our emergency fund into one of these bond funds to take advantage of the higher interest rate?
